Rams to play two FBS teams this fall

Bronx, N.Y. – The 2021 Fordham University football schedule was officially released today and it includes not one, but two games against FBS opponents, including the Rams' first ever game with the University of Nebraska.
 
The Rams open the 2021 season with the trip to Nebraska and, two weeks later, travel to Florida to face Florida Atlantic University. It will be the tenth time over the past eleven years that Fordham will face an NCAA FCS school (a 2020 game at Hawaii was canceled due to COVID), with the Rams winning two of the games, a 30-29 triumph at Temple in 2013, and a 37-35 victory at Army West Point in 2015.
 
Fordham also has non-conference games listed with Monmouth University, Stony Brook University, and Wagner College.
 
After going 2-1 in the spring against Patriot League opponents, Fordham will play a full six-game league schedule in the fall, with home games against and Bucknell, Holy Cross, and Lehigh.
 
Nebraska logoSeptember 4 – at Nebraska (Memorial Stadium, Lincoln, Neb.)
  • First game between the Rams and Cornhuskers.
  • Fordham's first game played in the Cornhusker State and the first against a Big 10 school since 1941.
  • Rams are 11-14-2 all-time versus current Big 10 schools but only two of those schools were in the conference at the time of the game.
  • If game sells out (90,000) it will be the largest crowd to see Fordham in action (current high is 66,154 at the 1942 Sugar Bowl).
  • Cornhuskers went 3-5 in 2020
 
Monmouth logoSeptember 11 – vs. Monmouth University (Jack Coffey Field)
  • Fourth meeting between Fordham and Monmouth on the gridiron.
  • Monmouth leads all-time series tied, 2-1.
  • Fordham won the 2017 game, 54-31, on Jack Coffey Field as Kevin Anderson completed 19 of 27 passes for 340 yards and five touchdowns.
  • Member of Big South for football.
  • The Hawks went 3-1 in the spring season.
  • Monmouth won Big South title in the spring and went to the NCAAs where the Hawks fell to Sam Houston.
 
FAU logoSeptember 18 – at Florida Atlantic University (FAU Stadium, Boca Raton, Fla.)
  • Second game played in Sunshine State (1954 at Miami).
  • Owls were 5-4 last fall.
  • Member of Conference USA.
  • Rams are 1-1 all-time vs. current Conference USA schools (a win over Rice in 1939 and a loss at Charlotte in 2018).
 
Stony Brook logoSeptember 25 – at Stony Brook University (La Valle Stadium, Stony Brook, N.Y.)
  • Fifth meeting between Fordham and Stony Brook on the grid­iron with the Seawolves leading the all-time series, 3-1.
  • Third meeting on the NCAA FCS level as the first two meetings occurred on the NCAA Division III level.
  • The game will be only Fordham's third contest on Long Island since 1994.
  • Stony Brook competes in the CAA for football.
  • Seawolves were 1-3 in the spring season.
 
Lafayette logoOctober 2 – at Lafayette College* (Fisher Stadium, Easton, Pa.)
  • 39th meeting between Fordham and Lafayette on the gridiron.
  • The two teams have split the past eight meetings.
  • Rams have won four of the past five meetings on Jack Coffey Field.
  • Chase Edmonds set the Patriot League record with 359 rushing yards against the Leopards in 2017.
  • The Leopards were 2-1 during the spring season.
 
Wagner logoOctober 9 – Wagner College (Jack Coffey Field)
  • Homecoming game
  • Seahawks are coached by former Fordham head coach Tom Masella
  • 12th meeting between Fordham and Wagner, first since 1987 NCAA Div. III Playoff game.
  • All previous eleven meetings came on the NCAA Div. III level.
  • Rams and Seahawks played at Giant Stadium in 1978, a game won by the Rams.
  • Seahawks are members of the Northeast Conference.
  • Wagner was 0-2 in the spring season.
 
Bucknell logoOctober 16 – Bucknell University* (Jack Coffey Field)
  • 37th meeting between Fordham and Bucknell on the gridiron.
  • The all-time series is tied 18-18.
  • Fordham has taken the past eight meetings, including a 31-17 win in Lewisburg in April as Glenn Cunningham intercepted a pair of passes, Fotis Kokosioulis caught nine passes for 149 yards and one touchdown, and Dequece Carter hauled in seven for 11 yards and a score.
  • The first four meetings between the Rams and Bison were payed at the Polo Grounds with Fordham winning three of the four.
  • The Bison were 2-2 in the spring season.
 
Lehigh logoOctober 23 – Lehigh University University* (Jack Coffey Field)
  • Family Weekend
  • 32nd meeting between Fordham and Lehigh on the gridiron.
  • The Rams have taken five of the past seven meetings, including three of the last four on Jack Coffey Field.
  • Zach Davis carried 34 times for 185 yards, both career-highs, with one touchdown vs. Lehigh in the 2019 meeting
  • The Mountain Hawks were 0-3 in the spring season.
 
Georgetown logoNovember 6 – at Georgetown University* (Cooper Field, Washington, D.C.)
  • 67th meeting between Fordham and Georgetown on the grid­iron.
  • The Rams lead the all-time series, which started in 1889, 40-23-3.
  • Fordham has taken seven of the past eight meetings, including a 30-27 win in Washington, D.C. in 2019, as Fotis Kokosioulis hauled in a 17-yard touchdown pass from Tim DeMorat with 16 seconds left.
  • Fordham is 15-3 against Georgetown since the Hoyas joined the Patriot League in 2001.
  • The Rams are 19-7-1 against Georgetown on Jack Coffey Field.
  • The 62 varsity meetings with the Hoyas are the most against any opponent for the Rams.
  • Georgetown did not compete the in spring season.
 
Holy Cross ogoNovember 13 – Holy Cross* (Jack Coffey Field)
  • 59th meeting between Fordham and Holy Cross on the gridiron.
  • Annual Ram-Crusader Cup contest.
  • The Rams are 12-10 against Holy Cross as the home team (7-6 on Jack Coffey Field), 9-15-1 at Holy Cross, 2-2-1 at the Polo Grounds and 1-1 at Yankee Stadi­um.
  • Holy Cross went 3-1 in the spring and won its second straight Patriot League title.
 
Colgate logoNovember 20 – at Colgate University* (Andy Kerr Stadium, Hamilton, N.Y.)
  • 33rd meeting between Fordham and Colgate on the gridiron.
  • The Rams upended the Raiders, 40-8, on Jack Coffey Field last April as Tim DeMorat completed 22 of 31 passes for 274 yards and two touchdown while running for two more scores and Trey Sneed rushed 23 times for 93 yards and two touchdowns while also catching five passes for 62 yards.
  • The Fordham win snapped a three-game Colgate winning streak in the all-time series.
  • The Raiders were 0-2 in the spring season.
