MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Mountaineer football team continues to add newcomers to its roster, as two more class of 2021 signees arrived at West Virginia University this week.

Safety Caleb Coleman and offensive lineman Tomas Rimac began work with their new teammates in strength and conditioning training at WVU this week.

Coleman and Rimac were a couple of weeks later in their move to Morgantown than many other Mountaineer newcomers, because each was still involved in athletic competitions at their respective schools until early June.

A starting safety at Hutchinson (Kansas) Community College, Coleman was helping the Blue Dragons capture the NJCAA National Championship on June 5 with a 29-27 victory over Snow College (8-1). It was the first national title for Hutchinson (8-0) in the program’s 89-year history. Coleman had a tackle in the title game, as the Blue Dragons limited Snow to 390 yards of total offense. On the season, Coleman (6-1, 175 lbs.) was credited with 20 tackles and three interceptions. A native of Smith’s Station, Alabama, Coleman was a true freshman at Hutchinson this past year, which played its football season in the spring because of COVID reasons. Since that season didn’t count towards his eligibility clock, Coleman arrives at WVU with four years of  eligibility remaining.

A native of Brunswick, Ohio, Rimac spent June 4-5 at a different athletic venue, as he was at Hilliard Darby High School participating in the Ohio Division I state boys track championships. A 6-foot-6, 298-pound offensive lineman during football season, Rimac also is outstanding in the shot and discus in track & field. On June 4, he finished second in the state championship in the shot with a put of 61-feet, 6-inches. The next day he returned to the track facility at Darby High, which is just outside of Columbus, and did even better in the discus, as his throw of 175-feet, 11-inches won the event by 4-feet, 10-inches.

Shortly after collecting their championship hardware, Coleman and Rimac packed up and headed to Morgantown. There they’ve joined the returning Mountaineers, as well as nine other fellow summer newcomers – Bryce Biggs (OL, 6-4, 294 lbs., Fr.), Aubrey Burks (S, 5-10, 201 lbs., Fr.), Lance Dixon (LB, 6-2, 210 lbs., RFr.), Ja’Corey Hammett (Bandit, 6-0, 196 lbs., Fr.), Justin Johnson (RB, 5-10, 196 lbs., Fr.), Saint McLeod (S, 5-10, 209 lbs., Fr.), Wyatt Milum (OL, 6-6, 291 lbs., Fr.), Hammond Russell (DL, 6-3, 287 lbs., Fr.) and Charles Woods (CB, 5-11, 193 lbs., Jr.).

Those 11 newcomers who arrived at WVU this summer joined nine other class of 2021 signees who enrolled at the University in January – Goose Crowder (QB, 6-2, 208 lbs., Fr.), Treylan Davis (TE, 6-3, 246 lbs., Fr.), Brayden Dudley (DL, 6-2, 242 lbs., Fr.), Davis Mallinger (S, 6-0, 188 lbs., Fr.), Doug Nester (6-7, 321 lbs., Soph.), Kaden Prather (WR, 6-4, 210 lbs., Fr.), Edward Vesterinen (DL, 6-3, 270 lbs., Fr.), Victor Wikstrom (6-3, 250 lbs., Fr.) and Andrew Wilson-Lamp (CB, 6-2, 174 lbs., Fr.).

The only signee from West Virginia’s class of 2021 who is not yet at WVU is running back Jaylen Anderson (6-0, 210 lbs., Fr.) from Perry, Ohio. It’s still unclear if there are any problems that are holding up Anderson’s enrollment, but to this point, he has not started workouts with the other Mountaineers.
