Mayhew, Mont gain all-region recognition following 2-0 campaign
PELLA—Central College defensive lineman Blade Durbala (senior, Blairstown, Benton HS) was tabbed for the D3football.com All-America team for the abbreviated spring season.
Meanwhile, offensive guard Joshua Mayhew (senior, Aurora, Ill., West Aurora HS) was a first-team all-region selection and freshman wide receiver Logan Mont (Aurora, Ill., West Aurora HS) was named to the all-region second team.
Due to the reduced number of NCAA Division III schools that competed this spring, the all-region squad was a combined unit, drawn from each region.
Durbala is the 39th player in Central football history to receive all-America distinction. He had nine tackles with 6.5 tackles for loss and 3.0 sacks. He was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week following both of Central's games and received league defensive player of the week recognition as well April 6. Previously he was a 2019 first-team American Rivers all-league pick and a third-team D3football.com All-West Region honoree.
Mayhew was a second-team all-conference pick in 2019 and a third-team D3football.com all-region selection. He has twice received Central's Bruce Wendt Award as the team's top offensive lineman.
Mont made an immediate splash with a team-high 17 pass receptions for 163 yards in two games.
The Dutch posted a 2-0 spring record. With the additional year of eligibility granted by the NCAA, Durbala and Mayhew will be among the players returning again this fall. Central, ranked No. 11 in Division III in the preseason by Lindy's National College Football Magazine, opens the fall season Sept. 4 at St. Olaf College (Minn.).
