It’s been a busy month for the Texas A&M Football team, with 39 recruits visiting campus during June. Even before the return of in-person recruiting at the beginning of the month, the Aggies had a strong start to their 2022, with a top-8 group of commits.

But as the month pressed on, commitments weren’t coming in, even with interest shown by a handful of big-name recruits. This week, that changed.

The Aggies received a commitment from Martrell Harris, a 3-star linebacker in the 2022 class. Even though he may be one of Texas A&M’s lowest-rated recruits for next season, he’s no slouch on the field. The linebacker earned the 373rd spot nationally in his class despite playing in only three varsity games in his career.

This pickup got the ball rolling, as the Texas A&M Football team would receive a couple more commitments in the same week.

The first to follow would be 2022’s highest-ranked long snapper by the name of Levi Hancock. If you don’t see his name come up on normal recruiting websites, that’s because he was ranked by Kohl’s Kicking, an extremely respected kicking organization for kickers, punters, and long snappers.

Even though these were both great finds for the TAMU Football team, they wouldn’t get a real boost, at least on paper, until late on Friday, when Jarred Kerr committed to play football in Aggieland.

With the addition of Kerr, the Texas A&M Football team leapfrogged the Alabama Crimson Tide in 247Sports’ SEC rankings

The addition of Kerr wasn’t just the Aggies obtaining an impressive athlete for their 2022 class, it signified something much better. Jimbo Fisher’s 2022 class officially leapfrogged Alabama’s in 247Sports’ recruiting rankings.

This puts Texas A&M ahead of Alabama in the 2022 and 2023 team rankings.

This isn’t something that will necessarily last until the end of the year, but it’s a good sign for the Aggies as they begin to fully form their 2022 roster.

Even though TAMU (93.11) is technically ahead of ‘Bama in the 2022 rankings, the Crimson Tide (94.16) still hold a higher average player rating. That said, this could be considered a down year for Nick Saban, who is normally in the top five.

If Jimbo Fisher can consistently bring better recruiting classes to College Station, the Aggies can be the squad that finally takes over the SEC in place of the Crimson Tide. Things could get interesting in the SEC, so keep your eyes on recruiting.
