It is open season in the transfer portal now.
So, we should lower our expectations on these massive 25 player recruiting classes. I could totally see Purdue going to a 15 to 10 ratio, of 15 incoming freshmen to 10 incoming transfers nearly every year.
This off-season alone, Coach Brohm has recruited 11 transfers, and there are rumors that more may be coming.
But, for the 2022 class, Purdue has 5 verbal commits so far, and I like all 5 of them.
Here they are.
Brady Allen - Quarterback, Fort Branch, Indiana, 4*
Domanick Moon - Linebacker, Fort Wayne, Indiana, 3*
Nic Caraway - Linebacker/Defensive End, Bryan, Texas, 3*
Charlie Kenrich - Tight End, Liberty Township, Ohio, 3*
Cross Watson - Offensive Lineman, Portage Michigan, Unranked
Brady Allen has been the gem of this class for 11 months now. Brady committed to Purdue last July and has recruited other in state players to come with him. Being a 4* Quarterback, he will be the highest quarterback recruit that Coach Brohm has gotten to West Lafayette. Brady has a big time arm and can move pretty well.
Domanick Moon was a priority target from the get go. The thumping inside linebackers is a nice fit for the 4-3 defense that our 3 Co-DCs will primarily run. He gets paired with Nic Caraway out of Texas, who gave his verbal just days after visiting Purdue. I see Nic more as a pass rusher than a linebacker.
Charlie Kenrich is an athletic tight end that has great ball skills. He will need to improve in blocking, but thats the story for basically every incoming tight end from high school to college. At only 220 pounds, he will easily put on 30 to 40 pounds and become a multi talented tight end that we have seen in the Jeff Brohm offense in all years since he has arrived in West Lafayette.
Cross Watson, he is an athlete at offensive line. He moves well and gets up to the second level pretty well. But, he is a project when it comes into strength. I wouldn’t pencil him in as an impact offensive lineman until he is on campus a few years and turns his body into a B1G Offensive Lineman’s body.
Overall, this is a good start. The staff has to be picky, as I said before, expect Coach Brohm to take transfers every off-season with the new rules. Which will in turn make recruiting classes smaller as well.
