USA TODAY Sports spent the 2019 college football season taking careful notes on all 130 teams in the Bowl Subdivision. With the year complete, let's hand out some grades.
It's time for report cards for the FBS, with marks ranging from the ultra-rare A+ to the utter failure that is an F grade. Three teams earned an F, including SEC cellar-dweller Arkansas. Four earned an A+, including LSU and Baylor.
Keep in mind that all report cards are graded on a relative curve. Take Minnesota and Alabama, for example. Both teams finished 11-2 with strong bowl wins, with the Golden Gophers beating Auburn and the Crimson Tide topping Michigan.

But Minnesota draws an A+ after winning a combined 12 games across the previous two seasons while Alabama was given a B after falling short of an SEC West championship and New Year's Six bowl berth. (The expectations at Alabama are immense.)

DYNASTY DELAYED: After loss, Clemson knows it'll be back for another run
CONQUERING HERO: LSU's Orgeron delivered perfection for home state
Likewise with the case of Illinois compared to Florida State and Miami (Fla.), three teams that finished with matching 6-7 records. Because reaching a bowl game stands as a solid achievement, however, Illinois lands at a B- while the Seminoles and Hurricanes were handed a D grade. With the season in the books, there are no additional opportunities for extra credit. Here's how the 2019 class grades out:
