Clemson football's California pipeline continues with nation's No. 1 prospect - Greenville News

Clemson’s recently discovered California pipeline continues to flow.

Five-star defensive end Korey Foreman, who is rated the No. 1 junior in the country by the 247Sports Composite, committed to the Tigers as part of the 2021 class on Sunday evening, becoming Clemson's fourth recruit from the Golden State in three years.

Foreman's commitment came on the heels of a pledge from four-star wide receiver and fellow Californian Beaux Collins, who committed Saturday night.

Foreman and Collins join wide receiver Joseph Ngata, who in 2019 became Clemson’s first signee from California since 1991, and D.J. Uiagalelei, a recent mid-year enrollee and a five-star quarterback in the 2020 class.

Foreman, a 6-foot-4, 265-pound defensive end from Corona, California, announced his decision via his Instagram, marking the third time in four years that the Tigers have landed the nation's No. 1-ranked prospect. Clemson signed Trevor Lawrence in 2018 and Bryan Bresee in 2020.

"God's purpose is to make something great out of you!," Foreman posted on his Instagram. "It is up to you whether you will fall in line with His leadership or resist it. I am 110% committed to Clemson University."

Foreman, who picked Clemson over Southern California, Alabama, Georgia, LSU and Ohio State, among others, was named MVP at The Opening Finals last July. He had 32 tackles, including five sacks, at Centennial High in 2019.

Collins will rejoin former teammate Uiagalelei at Clemson; both are products of west coast power St. John Bosco, which topped USA TODAY’s Super 25 Football Rankings last season.

“It definitely has opened up the floodgates for kids who want to come out here,” said Terry Bullock, a linebackers coach at St. John Bosco who accompanied several of the team’s players to Clemson Coach Dabo Swinney’s summer camp last year.

Expanded roles: 5 Clemson football players who will be counted on heavily in 2020

During that camp, Bullock expressed confidence that Collins was “a big target” for Clemson’s program. Collins chose Clemson over Ohio State and Southern California, among others.

Collins fits the mold of several recent Clemson receivers who have parlayed their talents into an NFL career – he’s 6-foot-3, 190 pounds and is adept at winning 50-50 balls. He had 41 receptions for 1,008 yards and 14 touchdowns last season.

Like Foreman, Collins made his commitment public after attending Clemson’s elite Junior Day over the weekend.

“I have found the school that is going to help develop me as a player, man and help prepare me for life,” Collins posted on his Twitter account. “After thorough thought and prayer, I’m committed to Clemson University.”

Clemson also received commitments from two more 2021 recruiting targets on Sunday, which has elevated the Tigers into the No. 1 spot in the 247Sports team rankings:

► Tight end Jake Briningstool committed Sunday morning. A four-star player from Brentwood, Tennessee, Briningstool had 49 receptions for 863 yards and nine touchdowns last season and is rated as the No. 2 tight end nationally by ESPN.

► Another four-star athlete – defensive end Cade Denhoff – also committed Sunday morning. Denhoff, of Lakeland, Florida, had 92 tackles, including 11 sacks, last season. The 6-4½, 225-pound product of Lakeland Christian School chose the Tigers over Alabama, LSU, Ohio State and Penn State, among others.

The weekend commitments of Foreman, Collins, Briningstool and Denhoff gives Clemson nine recruits for the 2021 class.
