The Texas A&M Football team is coming off of one of the best seasons in the school’s history. That said, they will not be happy playing second-fiddle to Alabama, a team that has been virtually unbeatable in the SEC in the past decade.
And to get there, Jimbo Fisher has to give his best attempt at closing the talent gap between these two teams.
Thus far, things are looking pretty good for the Aggies. For the 2022 class, ‘Bama is having an off-year compared to usual with just six committed players thus far and a lower quality class than Crimson Tide fans are accustomed to.
The Texas A&M Football team, on the other hand, is continuing to grind on the recruiting trail. They’ve got another top ten class lined up, with 5-star quarterback Connor Weigman headlining the commits. On Tuesday, the Aggies got a step closer to a huge 5-star recruit for their 2022 class.
5-star IMG Academy safety Keon Sabb included Texas A&M Football in his top-6
Keon Sabb, regardless of position, is one of the most sought-after recruits in the country. The IMG Academy safety is a top-20 recruit in 247Sports’ composite rankings, a good indicator for talent in college football recruiting.
On Tuesday, Sabb released his top six schools. On the list, you’ll spot Texas A&M’s logo.
If the Aggies managed to pick him up, it would be huge for their secondary moving forward, as there will be a lot of turnover after the 2021-22 season. Sabb could find immediate playing time, even at a school like TAMU.
This next part that you’re about to read is pure conjecture — essentially a theory and nothing more.
Just over a month ago, Derrick Tucker, a former 4-star and TAMU safety, entered his name into the transfer portal. It looked like he wouldn’t receive any immediate playing time, which cannot be the full reason why he left. With two years of eligibility remaining, he would have had an opportunity to start in 2022.
Tucker recently announced his transfer to Tennessee State.
That said, what if the coaching staff chose Sabb over Tucker? The decision would be easy, as Tucker was a player who hardly saw the field during his time in College Station, while Sabb is as close to guaranteed talent as you’ll find at the college football level.
This could explain part of the reasoning behind the transfer, opening up a spot for a young guy at the safety position and improving the outlook for Sabb earning playing time in College Station right off the bat.
Either way, the Aggies’ recruiting class would get a huge boost if they were able to secure Keon Sabb. Look for Jimbo Fisher and company to be grinding to pull in this big-time recruit.
