XFL training camps include 36 players with Alabama football roots - AL.com

One month before the new XFL kicks off its inaugural season, 36 players from Alabama high schools and colleges are in the training camps of the league's eight teams.

All eight XFL teams began practice on Sunday in the Houston area, and they'll be in training camp through Jan. 22.

The players with Alabama football roots on XFL training-camp rosters include:

Several players who were selected in the XFL Draft in October are no longer on team rosters. Those players include Chris Davis (Woodlawn, Auburn), Ladarius Gunter (Jeff Davis), DeVozea Felton (Tuskegee), John Franklin III (Auburn), Adrian Hubbard (Alabama), Arie Kouandjio (Alabama), Cyrus Kouandjio (Alabama), Kelvin McKnight (Samford), Wes Saxton (Hueytown, South Alabama), Justin Thomas (Prattville) and Andrew Williams (Auburn).

Franklin, McKnight and Saxton finished the 2019 season in the NFL. Franklin made his NFL debut in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' final regular-season game. McKnight was on the Denver Broncos' practice squad. Saxton remains on the Seattle practice squad as the Seahawks prepare for their playoff game against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.

On the opening weekend of the season, the Dragons visit the Defenders at 1 p.m. CST, with ABC televising the game, and the Wildcats visit the Roughnecks at 4 p.m. on FOX on Feb. 8. On Feb. 9, the Vipers visit the Guardians at 1 p.m. on FOX and the Battlehawks visit the Renegades at 4 p.m. on ESPN.
