The UIL latest realignment was released Monday morning.
This new alignment determines what district every UIL affiliated team in the state will participate in from 2020 to 2022.
FOOTBALL DISTRICTS
Here are the new football districts for teams in the TRN Sports coverage area. Coverage area teams in bold.
CLASS 5A DIVISION II
District 3-5A — Rider, WFHS, Abilene Wylie, Canyon Randall Lubbock-Cooper, Plainview
Reaction — This is exactly as expected. The real news for this district is who is in District 4-5A. Once again, Aledo has been pushed to Region II with Carrollton Creekview and Grapevine joining Fort Worth ISD schools North Side, Polytechnic, South Hills, Southwest, Trimble Tech and Wyatt. Aledo would not be a playoff opponent for Rider or Old High until the state semifinals.

CLASS 4A DIVISION I
District 4-4A — Hirschi, Burkburnett, Decatur, Gainesville, Lake Worth, Springtown
Reaction — This is another expected scenario. Hirschi, Burkburnett, Gainesville and Decatur have been together since Class 4A was split into divisions. Springtown joined that foursome last realignment, and it made a lot of sense to pull Lake Worth with the Porcupines to replace Mineral Wells. The Lake Worth Bullfrogs went 5-6 last season, finishing fourth in District 6-4A and falling in the bi-district round of the playoffs to Waco La Vega.

CLASS 4A DIVISION II
District 3-4A — Graham, Iowa Park, Vernon, Bridgeport, Mineral Wells
Reaction — This is a smaller district than expected, but the topography of it makes sense. Iowa Park and Vernon avoid going into the Panhandle with UIL opting to pull Seminole north instead. Bridgeport was the most likely to join that trio. Mineral Wells was an easy choice to get the district to five teams. All four district in Region I-4A Division II have five teams, placing just 20 teams in the region.
CLASS 3A DIVISION I
District 4-3A — Bowie, Boyd, Brock, Paradise, Pilot Point, Ponder, Whitesboro
Reaction — Another easy projection. There was a question on whether Whitesboro would shift to the east, but the district is exactly as it was last realignment.

CLASS 3A DIVISION II
District 5-3A — Jacksboro, Comanche, Dublin, Eastland, Merkel, Millsap
District 6-3A — City View, Henrietta, Holliday, Nocona, Callisburg, Valley View
Reaction — Jacksboro is left out of the local district, but at least the possibility for a first-round playoff matchup continues. District 6-3A Division II just got a lot easier with Gunter left out. Callisburg hasn't been in the playoff picture the last two years. Valley View is moving up from Class 2A Division I, but the Eagles are coming off a 12-3 season, including a 61-7 win against Nocona. They're a contender.
CLASS 2A DIVISION II
District 6-2A — Archer City, Olney, Quanah, Seymour, Electra, Munday
District 7-2A — Petrolia, Windthorst, Chico, Era, Muenster
Reaction — Archer City and Windthorst are placed in separate districts but will still play each other Week 3. Quanah and Munday are back in the local district after spending last realignment in the Panhandle. Munday was expected to return. Quanah could have gone either way. The Windthorst-Muenster matchup is instantly circled on the schedule.
CLASS A DIVISION I
District 3-A — Crowell, Knox City, Northside, Paducah, Spur
District 9-A — Bryson, Newcastle, Perrin-Whitt, Saint Jo, TLC-Arlington
Reaction — District 3-A exchanged Chillicothe for Spur. That's rough. The Bulldogs knocked Knox City out of the playoffs with an 88-43 win last season. District 9-A adds TLC-Arlington to its mix. It's a charter school without much of a record playing UIL six-man football. The other four teams are well known. It was a competitive district last season and should be once again.
CLASS A DIVISION II
District 8-A — Benjamin, Chillicothe, Harrold, Rule
District 9-A — Throckmorton, Paint Creek, Lueders-Avoca, Moran, Woodson
District 10-A — Gold-Burg, Forestburg, Fannindel, Trinidad
Reaction — Benjamin and Harrold have both had issues with enrollment numbers in the past. Is it possible District 8-A ends up with only two active teams during this realignment?
BASKETBALL/VOLLEYBALL DISTRICTS
Here are the new volleyball and basketball districts for schools in the TRN Sports coverage area. This alignment will serve most other sports as well, although it's likely softball and baseball districts will be different in Class 2A. Those districts will be released at a later date. Coverage area teams in bold.
CLASS 5A
District 5-5A — Rider, WFHS, Aledo, Azle, Brewer, Granbury
Reaction — This is good news for girls basketball. There was conversations about Rider and Old High going west into the Panhandle, but it's a move east instead. Being in District 5-5A also means going east for the playoffs. That's tougher in boys basketball. This was caused by UIL splitting the Amarillo and Lubbock schools into separate districts. Abilene Cooper and Abilene Wylie were both placed in District 4-5A with Lubbock ISD. Rider has a chance to win its volleyball district, but the first round of the playoffs is going to present a challenge
CLASS 4A
District 5-4A — Hirschi, Burkburnett, Graham, Iowa Park, Vernon, Mineral Wells
Reaction — This traditional five-team district with all local teams welcomes Mineral Wells into the fold. The Rams basketball team is currently 4-21. The girls basketball team is 7-17. The volleyball team went 6-24. The powers of this district remain the same in all three sports.
CLASS 3A
District 7-3A — City View, Bowie, Henrietta, Holliday, Jacksboro, Nocona, Breckenridge
Reaction — Jacksboro didn't make the cut for football, but the Tigers are back in the local district for basketball and volleyball. It feels a season too late for girls basketball with standout Baylee Thompson graduating in May. Regardless, it's nice to have the Tigers with their more traditional rivals. This district also pulled Breckenridge from Jacksboro's current district. Childress was sent back into the Panhandle.
CLASS 2A BASKETBALL
District 9-2A — Archer City, Olney, Petrolia, Quanah, Seymour, Windthorst
Reaction — Nothing new here. And that's the way we like it.
CLASS 2A VOLLEYBALL
District 5-2A — Quanah, Benjamin, Chillicothe, Crowell, Knox City, Munday, Northside, Paducah
District 6-2A — Newcastle, Albany, Hawley, Ranger, Moran, Strawn, TLC-Abilene, Woodson
District 9-2A — Archer City, Petrolia, Windthorst, Gold-Burg, Bryson, Electra, Harrold, Prairie Valley
District 10-2A — Forestburg, Alvord, Chico, Lindsay, Poolville, Graford, Perrin-Whitt, Saint Jo
Reaction — No big surprises here. Bryson is a quality Class A addition to District 9-2A after advancing to the state tournament the last two seasons.
CLASS A BASKETBALL
District 15-A — Knox City, Aspermont, Paint Creek, Lueders-Avoca, Roby, Rotan, Rule
District 16-A — Benjamin, Chillicothe, Crowell, Electra, Harrold, Munday, Northside
District 21-A — Bryson, Graford, Newcastle, Throckmorton, Perrin-Whitt, Woodson
District 22-A — Bellevue, Goldburg, Forestburg, Midway, Prairie Valley, Saint Jo, Slidell
Reaction — Electra makes the plunge into Class A. That's going to be fun to watch considering how competitive the Tigers have been at the Class 2A level.
