FSU football defeating Miami Saturday evening sent a shockwave through the collective soul of the 3,128 folks that claim to be fans of the team down south. The fallout has been tremendous, with disbelief as they believed they would blow the Noles out despite oddsmakers having them as -2.5 betting favorites.
That sets the tone for most of what I’m going to write in this piece. The continual belief that Miami fans think their program is better than it is. I had them as the third most overrated team on the 2021 FSU schedule.
The problem is people only look at records, just as some FSU fans do when criticizing Mike Norvell. However, context matters. Miami had an 8-3 record last season that masked their ONE win against a ranked opponent.
They beat a sub .500 team (Virginia Tech) by one point and beat a 5-5 Virginia team by five points at home. They came into the 2021 season ranked No. 14, which was laughable. However, I never give much weight to preseason rankings.
We saw Miami struggle out of the gates to a 2-4 record, nearly losing to Appalachian State in Manny Diaz’s fourth year as head coach. Like Manny Diaz didn’t lose to FIU, Duke, and Louisiana Tech in back-to-back-to-back games in his first year. Here are three reasons Miami fans remain delusional after the loss to FSU football.
