While Johnny Manziel spent his weekend golfing and partying in Arizona, he simultaneously managed to cause a football-related stir on social media.

The former Heisman Trophy winner — just weeks after bashing the XFL — tweeted Friday a message directed at league commissioner Oliver Luck, asking for a contract to play in the XFL. Manziel followed that tweet up by briefly deleting his Twitter account entirely.

Come Saturday, Manziel’s Twitter account was back, and he also made it clear that he had no interest in playing football at any level. He kept the XFL tweets live on his account, and dismissed those tweets as him trying to stir up controversy.

Manziel spent one season in the CFL with both Hamilton and Montreal before getting banned from the league ahead of the 2019 season. He played briefly in the AAF before the league shut down operations.

Back in 2018, Manziel spoke about being diagnosed with bipolar disorder and working on his sobriety. In his tweets and Instagram posts from Arizona, though, he’s been open about his return to the party culture.
