Dabo Swinney wants his team to remember the feeling, so that it'll never happen again. Losing is tough to stomach for the nation's new it program, especially when Clemson hadn't felt the dejection of defeat in nearly two years.
"It’s a decision in how you respond to the win, respond to the loss and our team has been amazing, our leadership, it’s been good for me to be able to see that,” Swinney said earlier this month after seeing first glimpses of his players' response to last season's ending.
LSU's win over Clemson was another mark in the title column for the SEC, the nation's torchbearer for titles over the past decade plus. But according to ESPN's Football Power Index preseason power rankings, the SEC might not be top dog during the 2020 season.
In fact, every Power 5 conference has at least three squads ranked inside the way-too-early projections including six from the Big Ten, tied with the SEC for most nationally.
ESPN defines its FPI as a "measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team's performance going forward for the rest of the season. FPI represents how many points above or below average a team is. Projected results are based on 10,000 simulations of the rest of the season using FPI, results to date, and the remaining schedule. Ratings and projections update daily."
Earlier this month, ESPN revealed its Top 10 for 2020 per its FPI projections, but now the full Top 25 is available for public consumption:
