At NBC Sports Washington, we're celebrating the great high school football talent in the DMV with our first All DMV Team. Below is the All-Defensive Team, led by Defensive Student-Athlete of the Year, Mitchell Melton. The All-Offensive team will be revealed on Tuesday.
Mitchell Melton, 20 (Good Counsel) Def Student-Athlete of the Year
Earning WCAC co-defensive player of the year honors, Melton was a terror for opposing offenses. The Ohio State commit set a school record with 20 sacks, leading the Falcons to a WCAC championship. He also recorded 87 tackles and forced four fumbles while playing against top tier talent weekly.
DEFENSIVE LINE:
Bryan Bresee, 20 (Damascus)
A one-man wrecking crew, Bryan Bresee was virtually un-blockable. The All-American Bowl alum and Clemson commit lived one of the more decorated high school careers in recent history, leading Damascus to three state championships while being widely regarded as the top recruit in the nation.
Marcus Bradley, 21 (Quince Orchard)
At 6-3, 270 lbs, Marcus Bradley was a mountain too steep for offenses to climb, as he helped his Cougars hold their opposition to less than 10 points in 8 games, including 5 shutouts.
Kris Jenkins, 20 (Good Counsel)
Jenkins was the co-defensive player of the year in the WCAC. He notched 15 sacks on the season.
Zion Dayne, 20 (South County)
The Yale commit and his stingy defense led the South County Stallions to a state championship. Dayne was a constant disruptor, registering over 100 tackles and 20 sacks.
LINEBACKER:
Mekhail Sherman, 20 (St. John’s)
Sherman was the heart and soul of his St. John’s Cadets. As a leader, the Georgia commit set the tone for the defense and displayed versatility, lining up wherever he was asked.
Ahmed Bailey, 20 (Friendship Collegiate)
Bailey used his length, quickness and athleticism to sack opposing quarterbacks 21 times.
Bailey’s Knights held nine opponents in single digits en route to capturing the DCSAA state championship.
Demeioun ‘Chop’ Robinson, 21 ( Quince Orchard)
One of the top recruits in the country, Robinson proved his prowess as an elite edge rusher. Chop notched 14 sacks and 21 tackles for loss.
Defensive Back:
Dorian Strong, 20 (Wise)
The Virginia Tech commit was a lockdown cornerback for the Pumas, often blanketing the oppositions’ top pass catcher. He had seven interceptions and five passes defended.
Joshuah Moten, 20 (National Christian Academy)
Texas A&M commit Joshuah Moten displayed the unique ability to take away one side of the field. Moten rarely saw passes thrown his way. Despite limited action, he finished the season with eight passes defended and four interceptions.
Ke’Von Hunter, 20 (H.D. Woodson)
Hunter, the long and rangy safety led the Warriors with four interceptions.
