Four former Longhorns earned spots on ESPN’s list of the top 150 college football players of all time, it was announced on Thursday.
The list of players ranked from 26-150 precedes the top 25 which will be released at halftime of the College Football Playoff National Championship on Jan. 13.
The top-ranked Longhorn is Tommy Nobis, checking in at No. 54. Ricky Williams earned the No. 57 spot, ahead of Bobby Layne and Vince Young. Layne is No. 75 while Young sits in the 81st spot.

Young played most recently and earned status as first-team All-American on the way to winning the Davey O’Brien and Maxwell awards in 2005. He led the Longhorns to the BCS National Championship with a thrilling 41-38 win over the No. 1 USC Trojans.
Nobis was a two-time All-American and won the Outland Trophy in 1965. Among his many accolades, he was an All-Southwest conference selection three times.
Williams played at Texas for four years and is the second Longhorn to win the Heisman trophy. He broke Tony Dorsett’s NCAA rushing record in a game against Texas A&M in 1998.
Layne earned status as a consensus All-American while playing quarterback in 1947. He finished his career with 3,145 yards passing and 25 touchdowns.
