When Zayvion McCluster picked up an Iowa Football scholarship offer this week, it came with a familiarity for the program. His older brother, Jayion McCluster, was recruited by the Hawkeyes. His head coach at Largo (FL) High, Marcus Pashcal, played there.
"I was excited to get the offer from Iowa because I've heard good things about it," Zayvion McCluster told HN. "Now I can get a deeper understanding of Iowa. It's also another great opportunity."
Zayvion (6-0, 191) has been offered by Miami, Maryland, Florida Atlantic, Central Florida and Florida State, where Jayion is heading into his second season.
New Iowa assistant Ladell Betts, who was coaching high school football in Florida before returning to his alma mater this spring, is leading the program's pursuit of McCluster. The Hawkeyes also offered '24 Largo linebacker Adarius Hayes this week.
"(Betts) liked what he saw on film. He said he knows I’d be a good piece to their team if I chose to go there," Zayvion McCluster said.
He's looking forward to growing the relationship.
"I've heard a lot of good things about the program and the school, and am excited to learn more. I would love to visit Iowa," he said.
Former Ole Miss and NFL running back/receiver Dexter McCluster is Zayvion McCluster's cousin.
According to Max Preps, Zayvion McCluster totaled 49 tackles (22 solo, 8.2 per game) as a sophomore. He also forced and recovered a fumble.
