Mike Singletary resigns as high school football coach after team goes 1-21 in two years - CBS Sports

Mike Singletary was a Hall of Fame linebacker for the Chicago Bears in the 1980s, but his success on the gridiron hasn't quite transferred to the coaching ranks. According to the Dallas Morning News, Singletary has resigned as the head coach of Trinity Christian Academy in Texas.

The former San Francisco 49ers head coach submitted his resignation in December so that he could focus on motivational speaking and consulting opportunities.

Singletary accumulated a 1-21 record during his two seasons as the team's head coach. Trinity Christian Academy went 0-11 during the 2019 season while going just 1-10 in 2018.

The Pro Football Hall of Famer also was the head coach of the Memphis Express in the, now defunct, Alliance of American Football. Singletary had a 2-6 record with the Express during the league's lone season.

Singletary's last NFL coaching experience came in 2016 when he was a defensive assistant for the Los Angeles Rams. During that campaign, the Rams put together a lowly 4-12 record.

During his two and a half seasons as the 49ers head coach, Singletary went 18-22 and never won more than eight games in a single season. Singletary is famous for his postgame tirade directed at Vernon Davis after he sent David to the locker room early following a penalty. It was later learned that Singletary dropped his pants during a halftime speech as he was demonstrating how poorly the team was playing.
