Kelvis White said he believed the job of Bob Jones’ head coach is important to people in the Madison community.
White will now get to experience it, up close and personal.
The Madison School Board named White – the coach at Mae Jemison for the last four seasons -- as the Patriots newest head coach, replacing Kevin Rose who left to take over at Lincoln County (Tenn.).
White also served on the staffs at Homewood, Russellville, and Birmingham-Southern.
"I loved the kids at Jemison," White said. "I think this was the right decision."

One reason White was attracted, he said, was because Bob Jones is a larger Class 7A school.
"I know the potential here,” he said. “I know we have some talented linemen, and the game is won in the trenches."
White takes over a Bob Jones program that finished 4-6 last season and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2004.
White played high school football at Courtland and then at Alabama. His coaching career included
White was a defensive lineman at Alabama and was All-Academic four years.
His coaching career has included assistant coaching jobs at Homewood and Russellville and an eight-year stint at Dothan before arriving at Mae Jemison.
At Mae Jemison, White compiled a 25-20 record and four straight playoff appearances. He also led Dothan for our playoff berths, but his playoff coaching record is just 1-8.
At Bob Jones, Kelvis White will have one familiar coaching opponent – his brother, Laron, who is the head coach at Sparkman.
“I want the players to have great character,” Kelvis White said. “I understand the tradition and the standard.”
