Two ex-Nebraska football players charged with sexual assault - USA TODAY

Two former Nebraska Cornhuskers football players were formally charged Wednesday in Lancaster County (Nebraska) with sexual assault of a 19-year-old woman.

Katerian LeGrone, 19, and Andre Hunt, 20, had been arrested last month over an alleged August incident. LeGrone was initially charged on suspicion of first-degree sexual assault, and Hunt had been charged on suspicion of aiding and abetting first-degree sexual assault.

Hunt and LeGrone, both members of coach Scott Frost's first recruiting class at his alma mater, were suspended indefinitely to start the season. "The minute we were made aware of any accusation, we funneled it to the person we are supposed to funnel Title IX issues to immediately, suspended them indefinitely from the team and removed them from all football activities," Frost told reporters on Dec. 18. "And then we let Title IX and the authorities do their job."

Court records obtained by USA TODAY Sports detailed text messages between the two men, with Hunt telling LeGrone in one, "We gotta tell the truth bruh they gonna find out it (sic) you had sex wit her."

"No bruh," LeGrone responded, according to the probable cause affidavit. "They not gone find out don't panic bruh just chill."

After the woman filed a Title IX complaint with Nebraska, the subsequent investigation, according to the affidavit, found that Hunt said LeGrone never asked for consent and that LeGrone told Hunt what he should say to police. The woman is not being identified because USA TODAY Sports does not publish the names of alleged victims of sexual assault unless they have publicly disclosed their identity.

Per the affidavit, the men agreed to have police search their cell phones, with searches for "lying on statement of sexual assault" and "how is saliva detected during sexual assault" appearing on one of the men's phones.

The alleged incident took place on Aug. 25, inside the Lincoln apartment LeGrone and Hunt shared. According to the affidavit, the woman told police she and Hunt began communicating and he invited her over. The woman told police she felt "pressured" to have sex with Hunt, and that she never consented to sex with another individual. According to the affidavit, "(The woman) said she did not verbally or physically resist Hunt or LeGrone out of fear of what they could do to her if she said something or if she began to cry."

Per the affidavit, Hunt first told authorities he had consensual sex with the woman and that LeGrone never had sex with her. A little more than 12 hours after being questioned, both Hunt and LeGrone "provided similar second statements that contradicted their first statements." In their second versions, both said they had consensual sex with the woman.

Attorney Carlos Monzon, who represents Hunt, told the Omaha World-Herald that the woman had exchanged social media messages with his client discussing sex and that later, after having sex, "screamed rape."

Hunt and LeGrone will face their preliminary hearings on Feb. 26.

Last week, Nebraska dismissed running back Maurice Washington after a series of violations, including an ongoing case of alleged child pornography in his native California.
