The Clemson football team will open up the 2021 season against the Georgia Bulldogs in a neutral-site matchup in Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.
The Tigers and Bulldogs have only matched up four times in the last two decades and the last time we saw the two teams on the field against one another was back in 2014.
Though we are still a little more than five months away from kickoff, there’s no doubt that Clemson football fans are excited about getting to see one of their historic rivals to open up the season.
Both Georgia and Clemson will be looking to prove something in this season-opener as the winner of this game sets themselves up nicely for a CFB Playoff berth, but the Bulldogs may be a little injury-plagued heading into the matchup.
It was reported last week that Georgia star WR George Pickens had torn his ACL. While we’ve seen speedy recoveries in the past- including Amari Rodgers- it still stands to reason that Pickens may not be available for the season-opener even if he is able to rehab that knee at hyper speed, similar to the rate that we saw Rodgers recover.
Now, there’s another injury to the WR position that UGA will have to deal with as it continues to prepare for Clemson football
Georgia WR Jermaine Burton was carted off the field during Tuesday’s practice, according to reports from DawgNation.
At this point, there have been no official updates on his injury. DawgNation reported that the injury involves a hyperextended knee, but the damage was not immediately known. Coach Kirby Smart is slated to address the media on Saturday.
The extent of Burton’s injury isn’t known at this point, but the Atlanta Journal-Constitution did report that the injury was ‘not too serious’ but that he would miss the rest of the spring.
The sentiment currently is that Burton will be back and ready when the Bulldogs take on the Tigers in September, but it’s still something to watch as we progress through the rest of this spring and into the summer.
