Michigan State has been active in the transfer portal all offseason, and the Spartans will add another player to the mix with Purdue transfer wide receiver Maliq Carr. Carr announced that he committed to MSU via Instagram on Friday.
Carr landing in East Lansing had been rumored since last week. Carr appeared in three games for the Boilermakers last season. His lone catch of the year was for 15 yards against Iowa.
He was listed as a 6-foot-5, 235 pound wide receiver on the Purdue Athletics website. With that size, Carr could see time at wide receiver and tight end, with tight end being considered a position of need for the Spartans.
Coming out of Oak Park High School, Carr was a highly touted recruit, with offers from the likes of Georgia, LSU, Texas A&M, Auburn, Ohio State and Notre Dame, among others. He was a composite four-star recruit and a top-five player in the state of Michigan for the class of 2020.
While football will be his main sport, Carr also has some basketball prowess and reportedly intends to suit up for Tom Izzo on the court as well. Carr held basketball offers from Robert Morris, Oakland and Western Michigan, among others, out of high school.
Michigan State could now have Carr and Keon Coleman suiting up for both the football and basketball programs in 2021-2022. Carr will have immediately eligibility in both sports.
