The Texas A&M Football team didn’t have an extremely productive year from their wide receivers in 2020. Among five receivers who caught passes, the unit as a whole didn’t reach 1,000 yards during the season. That said, Ainias Smith was technically a runningback, but if you add his receiving total, the number shoots up.
That said, there is still a ton of competition at the wideout spot this year. In a year where the Aggies hardly lose any talent, it’ll be a dogfight for playing time in College Station.
If the level of competition wasn’t already clear, an Aggie player has already entered the transfer portal in Shadrach Banks.
Texas A&M Football WR Shadrach Banks may have not seen his promises fulfilled
There is only so much that we can assume about the situation with Shadrach Banks, but one of them is that he may have not been getting the playing time that he was guaranteed. It was assumed that he would instantly see the field in the Maroon and White, but what if that wasn’t the case?
There’s no actual reason to believe this other than the fact that instant playing time was the primary promise that the coaching staff gave him when he committed to the Aggies.
That said, there are a lot of wide receivers on this team who are competing at a high level, so there’s no guarantee for anybody.
Take playing time away, and there’s nothing separating Texas A&M in the eyes of a highly-touted recruit who is using college football as a stepping stone to the NFL.
