Oregon State football games are finished for now, but let’s face it, fans have football on their mind 12 months out of the year.
Is it ever too early to start looking at next season?
Dumb question, because here we go, with what is probably a way-too-early look at the Beavers’ 2020 depth chart on offense.
There’s no way it holds up come Sept. 3 when OSU faces Oklahoma State in Stillwater. There will be changes during the spring after an offseason of development, and even more during preseason camp in August, when all the newcomers join the team.
But this is a starting point, and our best guess 241 days before the 2020 opener (player year listed is for 2020-21):
Position | Starter | Backup |
---|---|---|
Quarterback | Tristan Gebbia 6-2, 193, R-junior |
Chance Nolan 6-3, 200, R-sophomore |
Running back | Jermar Jefferson 5-10, 214, junior |
B.J. Baylor 5-11, 208, R-junior |
Receiver | Trevon Bradford 6-0, 182, R-senior |
Jesiah Irish 5-11, 173, R-sophomore |
Receiver | Tyjon Lindsey 5-9, 193, R-junior |
Champ Flemings 5-5, 141, R-junior |
Receiver | Kolby Taylor 5-11, 211, R-junior |
Anthony Gould 5-8, 172, R-freshman |
Tight end | Teagan Quitoriano 6-6, 256, junior |
Luke Musgrave 6-6, 236, sophomore |
Left tackle | Brandon Kipper 6-6, 305, R-junior |
Jaelen Bush 6-7, 280, R-junior |
Left guard | Onesimus Clarke 6-4, 310, R-junior |
Rob Vanderlaan 6-5, 267, R-sophomore |
Center | Nathan Eldridge 6-3, 300, R-senior |
Nous Keobounnam 6-2, 285, R-senior |
Right guard | Nous Keobounnam 6-2, 285, R-senior |
Jake Levengood 6-4, 285, R-sophomore |
Right tackle | Korbin Sorensen 6-6, 305, R-senior |
Joshua Gray 6-4, 287, R-freshman |
Comments:
Quarterback: Gebbia heads into spring practice as the leader with two years of knowledge from offensive coordinator Brian Lindgren’s system. But Nolan is a wild card, as someone who brings a different skill set than Gebbia and 2019 quarterback Jake Luton.
Running back: Only an injury keeps Jefferson from starting. Baylor should see increased playing time this season, but others, like Taron Madison, will push for time.
Receiver: Bradford and Lindsey seem certain to start. We’ll go with Taylor as the third starter, but Irish and Flemings could easily push for a starting role. With a year under his belt, Gould is also a factor in the starting mix.
Tight end: Though Quitoriano is listed as the starter, Musgrave is 1A. They’ll both play a lot, and often together in two tight-end sets.
Offensive line: This is posted with the least amount of confidence among the offensive starters. Kipper at left tackle, Eldridge at center and Keobounnam at right guard feel right. The rest are educated guesses. Several of the listed players could play guard or tackle. Sorensen started three years as a tackle at Portland State and there is some thought he’ll play guard at OSU. But for right now, with plenty of uncertainty at tackle and less at guard, we’ll insert Sorensen at right tackle.
