Happy Sunday! It’s that time of year again! Here at Stampede Blue, we pride ourselves on having a large community of friendly fantasy football team owners (we average host about 10 free fantasy football leagues a year). Up front, I (Jared Malott) would like to be on the ball better this year. If you would please either post your e-mail address in a comment, send me an e-mail at jared.stampedeblue@gmail.com or you can DM me on Twitter here: CLICK HERE.
If you’re interested in playing fantasy football against both Stampede Blue staff (TBA) and other Colts/football fans, let me know what range of time on a specific day or two you’re available (plan to draft). For example “Hey Jared, Here’s $100 (jared.malott@gmail.com on PayPal). I am generally available Mon-Tues-Wed after 5:30pm. Please spend that money on the dog rescue/bakery/dog treat bakery your wife is starting.”
Anyway.
Every year starting about this time, I get flooded with messages and questions about fantasy football. Just about every year, I can guess the exact questions coming in.
First things first, if you are a league owner and want to make sure you’re playing the right format, I believe that 5. point PPR is the sweet spot. I’d also recommend your league have 10-12 members (8 is my minimum and about 16 is where I’d top out a league). If you’re set up to run multiple leagues, it’s probably best to ask what people prefer, try to make that happen and then let everyone down in the end. You know?
In terms of how to draft, again, every year I play in about 20 leagues, make the playoffs in 15 of those leagues and win about half of those. I play this format across all leagues, track my own data and have my own draft strategy. I recommend you build your team from RB > WR > QB/TE > D/ST > KICKER. In fact, I wouldn’t draft a defense or kicker unless it were one of my last two picks. Also, if you pick up any reading material, specifically draft guides or cheat sheets, understand .5 PPR is what you want to see. Keep that in mind!
That said, my favorite thing in the world to do is to do exactly what I want to do. I say get your guy. If you love this QB (I wouldn’t do it 1st round probably), go get him. Be happy. Same for TE. Get your guy. Probably not early very often, but definitely. Don’t be a bad and sad drafter on draft day because you “drafted depth” instead of just seeking happiness at all costs, you know?
Anyway, I’m not trying to be philosophical about it, but yeah. Have fun, y’all. I’m sorry for being a bad league manager prior and I’ll work harder to get it right this year. Hit me with your fantasy football/DFS questions, comments, concerns etc. etc.
