10 Days to Purdue Football: Cam Allen - Hammer and Rails

Today’s player has made a number switch from 18 to 10, but he has become a regular starter and contributor on defense.

Cam Allen - Jr.

Bluefield, VA (Graham HS)

6’1”, 195 pounds

Safety

2021 Projection: Starter

Allen came on as a true freshman in 2019 and contributed immediately, playing in 11 games and racking up 32 tackles with an interception against Northwestern. That helped him move into a starter’s role during last year’s abbreviated season. He was even more effective then with 27 tackles over the six games and a team leading two interceptions. Sure, that is not a great total, but considering Purdue did not get a single turnover as a team in the last three games getting a pair in the first three is pretty good. He also recovered a fumble against Iowa, giving him three turnovers in the first three games. Purdue had just 3 interceptions and four fumble recoveries on the season, so Allen accounted for 3 of the 7 turnovers forced.

Allen is very likely a starter this season. He will be expected to be a leader in the secondary and should form a nice pairing with Marvin Grant at safety.
