Notre Dame Football: Kyle Rudolph should have big success in the Big Apple - Slap the Sign

Former Notre Dame Football star Kyle Rudolph is heading to the Big Apple to play for the New York Giants after playing his whole career in Minnesota.

The Notre Dame Football program is going to produce numerous draft picks in the 2021 NFL Draft, after a tremendous four-year run by most of these seniors. The Irish have won four or more games for four straight seasons, and while they are losing a bunch of talent, there is plenty leftover in South Bend.

Looking at the past, the Irish have been solid in churning out solid NFL tight ends, including Kyle Rudolph, who played for the school from 2008 through the 2010 college football season. Rudolph racked up at least 300 yards receiving in all three seasons, finishing his career with over 1,000 yards, while scoring 11 times.

That was good enough to make him a second-round selection of the Minnesota Vikings, a franchise to which he would spend his entire NFL career with. However, he was signed by the New York Giants as a free agent this offseason and will begin his next chapter under the bright lights of New York City.

To be fair, the Giants play in New Jersey, but it is an NYC team nonetheless, as they have a rabid fan base within the five boroughs. Rudolph, who was named a Pro Bowler in two seasons with Minnesota, did battle injuries last season, but during the 2019 campaign, he hauled in the game-winning touchdown reception in the Wild Card round.

That is the kind of big-play ability that is going to make him a favorite in New York, and while he won’t be the top tight end on the roster, he is going to have a solid season. The Giants have a young quarterback in Daniel Jones, which means he will need security blankets, and a veteran like Rudolph can be just that for him.

Another tight end, Tommy Tremble, will likely be joining Rudolph in the NFL, after becoming a top prospect at his position group this offseason. Who knows? Maybe the Giants take a look at Tremble, giving them two former Notre Dame Football tight ends behind starter Evan Engram.
