Each and every season there is a game that can potentially jump up and bite a team. Over the last two seasons, it has been the game against the Kansas State Wildcats.

Potential Letdown for the Oklahoma Sooners

Our colleagues at College Football News put together a list for the sandwich/letdown game on the schedule for each Power Five team. This time around, it isn’t the KSU game that should be a concern for Lincoln Riley and company.

Letdown Game:

at Baylor on Nov. 13

If things go according to form, Oklahoma should be rolling by mid-November, and Baylor shouldn’t. Focus-wise, the Sooners will be coming off a two week break, and the finishing kick against Iowa State and Oklahoma State comes after the trip to Waco. – College Football News

Game Before:

vs Texas Tech on Oct. 30

Game After:

vs Iowa State on Nov. 20

Last season against the Baylor Bears, Oklahoma was held well under their season average. The Sooners would score 27, while they averaged 43.0 points per game which was sixth-best in FBS. Defensively Baylor was able to stifle the OU offense and with a year under his belt, Dave Aranda should have a better defense than he did a year ago.

Prior to this game, the Sooners have Texas Tech then a bye week before ending the season with Baylor, Iowa State, and Oklahoma State. If there was ever a spot for a “trap game”, then Baylor would be it.

Trap Games for each Big 12 Team:

  • Baylor Bears- Texas State
  • Iowa State Cyclones- UNLV
  • Kansas Jayhawks- South Dakota
  • Kansas State Wildcats- Nevada
  • Oklahoma State Cowboys- Kansas
  • Texas Longhorns– Louisiana
  • Texas Christian Horned Frogs- Baylor
  • Texas Tech Red Raiders- FIU
  • West Virginia Mountaineers- LIU
