Meet TCPalm's All-Decade Offensive Football Team and vote for the Player of the Decade - TCPalm

Winners, leaders and dynamic playmakers.

Those are the primary characteristics of TCPalm’s All-Decade Offensive Football team.

During the first half of the decade, Fort Pierce Central was the dominant program on the Treasure Coast, earning a Top 25 national ranking in 2013. The Cobras have four players from that squad on the All-Decade team.

That includes quarterback Sam Vaughn, whose talent, consistency and intangibles set him apart from a crowded field of outstanding high school signal callers.

The past decade has seen the Treasure Coast produce some of the best quarterbacks in area history. The list includes Division I quarterbacks (i.e. Carter Stanley and Stone Labanowitz), area and state record holders (i.e. Nick Celidonio and Jordan Watkins) and exciting athletes (i.e. George Johnson, Travares Copeland and D.J. Juste).

Vaughn checks all the boxes. The two-time All-Area Offensive Player of the Year led Central to back-to-back regional championship games, accounted for more than 3,000 yards and 27 touchdowns as a senior and set a record with 220 pass attempts without an interception as a senior.

Vaughn is joined on the All-Decade team by former teammates Marcus Levy — a running back who scored 43 touchdowns and scored at least once in 23 consecutive games — and offensive linemen Andrew Guthart and Stewart Reese.

Vero Beach, which has not lost a regular-season game since falling to Central in 2013, dominates rest of the skill position spots with players who rewrote the record books.

Wide receivers MJ McGriff (area-best 110 receptions as a junior) and Michael Smith (single-season record 24 touchdown catches) and running back Akeem Dixon (23 touchdowns as a senior) all were TCPalm All-Area Offensive Player of the Year winners and first-team all-state selections. Demarcus Harris, the area’s all-time leader in receiving yards, is the only receiver in area history to record back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons.

Three utility players make the squad: former All-Area Players of the Year Wonderful Terry (Fort Pierce Westwood) and D.J. Juste (Port St. Lucie) and three-time all-state pick George Johnson (Martin County).

Terry, the hero of Showdown 31, scored 14 touchdowns as a senior and helped the Panthers to a perfect regular season in 2010. Juste, who in 2011 helped lead Port St. Lucie to its first winning season in 20 years, had 2,917 passing yards and 27 touchdowns and 2,710 rushing yards and 24 touchdowns in three years at quarterback. Johnson, a four-year starter at quarterback and wide receiver, accounted for more than 6,700 yards and 70 touchdowns.

All-state offensive linemen Marcus Jackson (Vero Beach), Marcus Norman (Sebastian River) and Cody Olsen (Treasure Coast) and two-time All-Area kicker Donald De La Haye (Port St. Lucie) round out the All-Decade team.

TCPalm is going through the past 10 years to select All-Decade high school sports teams. Players were selected from TCPalm’s annual All-Area first teams for each sport between the 2010-11 and 2019-20 school years.
