The ESPN Football Power Index has long been one major computer projections of how a team will look in the upcoming games of a season. With the 2019 season completely in the rearview mirror, the FPI has adjusted to forecasting every Oregon game in the upcoming season.
While the full slate of FPI projections hasn't been released yet, ESPN analytics guru Brad Edwards this week broke down every Power 5 conference's preseason title projections and gave the Ducks the edge to repeat as Pac-12 champions.
“Among the Power 5 conferences, the second-biggest favorite to win a league championship after Clemson is Oregon,” Edwards said. “FPI gives the Ducks a 59 percent chance to repeat in the Pac-12. But a daunting September challenge against Ohio State pushes Oregon to the second-tier of Playoff contenders. The Ducks account for the majority of the Pac-12’s 27 percent chance to end its three-year Playoff drought.”
