Manny Diaz had one of the shortest stints in college football history during his 18 days at Temple in December 2018. After bringing strength and conditioning coach David Cooney a year ago, Diaz might be adding a star DL to the Miami football program from the Owls.
Manny Diaz could be adding another key member of the Temple to the Miami football program. Defensive end Quincy Roche was a dominant force for Temple in 2019. The 6’4 235 pound defensive lineman had 49 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, five pass breakups, two fumble recoveries and a forced fumble.
During his three seasons with the Owls, Roche has 137 tackles, 39.5 TFLs, 26 sacks, Six PBUs, five FRs and six FFs. Roche would be a huge addition to the Miami defensive line after the Hurricanes lost 2019 graduate transfer Trevon Hill and junior Jonathan Garvin who left a year early for the NFL Draft.
Roche’s stellar 2019 season earned him the American Athletic Conference Player of the Year as the Owls finished 8-5. Roche would team with rising redshirt sophomore Gregory Rousseau to give Miami one of the best and most versatile bookend edge rushers in the country or he could move inside.
Roche finished the 2019 season seventh in the nation in sacks, Rousseau was second. Roche was 10th in TFLs, Rousseau seventh. Andrew Ivins of Inside the U initially reported that Roche could be headed to Miami.
Miami has been in contact with Quincy Roche. Put him opposite Greg Rousseau. They combined for 28.5 sacks last season.

The prior relationship that Roche had with Miami strength and conditioning coach David Cooney at Temple will give Miami a good chance to sign him. Roche has already spoken with Miami about the possibility of matriculating in Coral Gables.
Diaz’s successor after his short stint in Philadelphia, former Northern Illinois head coach Rod Carey released the information a couple of weeks ago that Roche inquired about feedback from the NFL. The deadline for underclassmen to enter the NFL Draft is January 17.
In addition to Rousseau, Miami will also return at defensive end, Scott Patchan who announced last month he was granted a sixth season of eligibility for 2020, rising sophomore Jahfari Harvey and Cameron Williams who was an academic redshirt. Incoming freshman signee Chantz Williams could also make an impact.
