After Week 1 of the fantasy football season, Houston Texans running back Mark Ingram is one of the most popular free agent pickups.
In August, we published an article saying why Mark Ingram was going to be the better fantasy football option than David Johnson and why he should be on the only Houston Texans running back on your roster.
It didn’t take long for the world to notice, and this isn’t a case of “I told you so”, but it kind of is in a way. A run-heavy offense (the team’s carrying five RB’s) that took advantage of the Jacksonville Jaguars defense that allowed the Texans to matriculate almost 450 yards of offense.
Mark Ingram is only rostered in 20% of Yahoo! leagues and 11% owned in ESPN leagues.
Mark Ingram should be added to your fantasy team
Despite the early to the middle part of the Texans schedule being tough (especially this week’s matchup against Cleveland), Ingram is a great stash in deeper leagues. After the next four weeks in which the Texans play Cleveland, Carolina, Buffalo, and then New England, the chance for a big day really opens up.
There are games down the stretch heading into the fantasy football playoffs that are conducive to points. The games against the Jets, Chargers, and the second matchup with the Jaguars are great late-season games for a sneaky add like Mark Ingram.
Ingram isn’t going to let up the starting position anytime soon, barring an injury or something else (hopefully not) happening. Additionally, Tyrod Taylor’s decent scrambling ability prevents defenses from clogging the box- creating more running lanes for Ingram to go back in.
The only way this addition could backfire is if the running back by committee stays strong and Philip Lindsay and David Johnson continue to vulture touchdowns from Mark Ingram. It’s a great stash and may just help you win your league down the road.
