New Orleans Saints: Jameis Winston, QB

The rollercoaster of the New Orleans Saints season has continued after a promising win led by the defense and special teams against the New England Patriots. The Saints defeated the Patriots 28-13 at Gillette Stadium and now advance to 2-1 on the season, tied for second place in the NFC South.

They’ve maintained their restriction with how much they’re going to let Jameis Winston throw the ball downfield and make sure he knows when to toss it out of bounds. Winston has thrown for under 150 yards in his third straight outing, while completing an average of 12.5 passes per game this season. He finished the ball game with two touchdowns, 13 completions and 128 yards, per espn.com. The Saints take on the New York Giants next week in what could be a blowout or a back a forth matchup; as of right now it’s hard to tell what team comes to play on Sunday.

Minnesota Vikings: Dalvin Cook, RB

The Minnesota Vikings defeated the Seattle Seahawks 30-17 in their first win of the season. Star RB Dalvin Cook did not suit up in the contest, currently dealing with an ankle injury. He’s listed as day-to-day and the Vikings staff believe he’ll be ready to comeback in Week 4.

Los Angeles Rams: Jalen Ramsey, CB

The Los Angeles Rams hosted the defending champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers in what could’ve been a preview to the 2022 NFC championship game. The Rams played an impeccably clean game for 60 minutes, with only one accepted penalty and zero turnovers. Although the offense spotlighted the show on Sunday, the Rams defense held Tom Brady to just one touchdown in the air and forced their way to two passes defended, three sacks, five QB hits, and six tackles for loss.

Jalen Ramsey and the rest of the Rams secondary had a difficult task coming into the game having to face a three headed monster in Chris Godwin, Mike Evans and Rob Gronkowski. They held the the Buccaneers offense to just one receiving touchdown from running back Giovanni Bernard. Ramsey concluded the ball game with seven solo tackles, tied for sixth amongst defensive backs in the NFL.

The Rams ultimately cruise past the Buccaneers, currently tied for first place in the NFC West with the Arizona Cardinals. They’ll face the Cardinals next week at SoFi Stadium in a battle of electrifying offensive schemes.

Carolina Panthers: Brian Burns, DE

The Panthers advance to 3-0 after a dominating Thursday night matchup against the Houston Texans. Although their schedule has been anything but difficult this season, they’ve taken full advantage, outscoring their opponents 69-30 through three weeks.

Carolina’s defense had a field day in this matchup, completely disrupting rookie QB Davis Mills in his second NFL appearance. They finished with one pass defended, four sacks, six tackles for loss, nine QB hits, and 49 total tackles. Brian Burns lead the defense once again with one pass defended, one tackle for loss, one QB hit, one sack, and three total tackles, per espn.com. Their defesinve front continues to shock the NFL landscape, pushing their way in becoming one of the top defensive lines in the league.

Los Angeles Chargers: Derwin James, SS / Asante Samuel Jr., CB

The Los Angeles Chargers took the road on Sunday to face off the defending AFC Champions, Kansas City Chiefs in an AFC West brawl. The Chargers star studded defense put on a show at Arrowhead Stadium, making it a very difficult 60 minutes for arguably the best QB in the league, Patrick Mahomes.

Star safety Derwin James was present yet again inside and outside the box, playing the dual threat defense DC Renaldo Hill loves to put on the field. James finished the matchup with four total tackles, while holding Tyreek Hill and Mecole Hardman to 89 receiving yards.

Rookie Asante Samuel Jr. was the star of the show on Sunday, picking up his second interception of the season. His innate ability to read the passers eyes and protect the middle of the field has turned him into a menace in the AFC West just three games into his career. Samuel Jr. concluded the matchup with one pass defended, one interception and two total tackles, per espn.com. He’s currently tied for third for most interceptions this season and tied for sixth with four passes defended.
