Bucknell’s Cherubino, Georgetown’s Wilson, Holy Cross’s Oliver and Lehigh’s Allen among the 176 honorees

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Four Patriot League football student-athletes were named 2021 William V. Campbell Trophy semifinalists when the National Football Foundations (NFF) released its list on Wednesday.
 
Bucknell senior defensive lineman Grayson Cherubino, Georgetown graduate student defensive back Ahmad Wilson, Holy Cross senior running back Peter Oliver and Lehigh senior running back Rashawn Allen were among the 176 semifinalists, including 36 from the FCS, for college football’s premier scholar-athlete award.
 
Candidates for the Campbell Trophy must be a senior or graduate student in their final year of playing eligibility, have a GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale, have outstanding football ability as a first-team player or significant contributor and have demonstrated strong leadership and citizenship. The class is selected each year by the NFF Awards Committee, which is comprised of a nationally recognized group of media, College Football Hall of Famers and athletics administrators.
 
This is the 32nd year of the Campbell Trophy, which has been considered the “Academic Heisman.” The NFF will announce 12-14 finalists on Oct. 27, with each receiving a postgraduate scholarship as a member of the 2021 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class. Finalists will be invited to the 63rd NFF Annual Awards Dinner on Dec. 7, where the winner will be announced.

Bucknell’s Cherubino Named Campbell Trophy Semifinalist
Bucknell's Grayson Cherubino was selected as a semifinalist for the 2021 William V. Campbell Trophy, the NFF and College Hall of Fame. The 2021 team captain led Bison defensive linemen in tackles in both 2018 (35) and 2019 (33); in a 2021 spring campaign halved by injury, he posted five tackles, 2.5 of which went for a loss, and forced a fumble. He has recorded 73 tackles (34 solo), 14.5 tackles for a loss, 6.5 sacks and three forced fumbles in 24 career games, 19 of which were starts. A Managing for Sustainability major, Cherubino was voted to the 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-District 2 Team and has made Bucknell's Dean's List every semester to date. He has completed internships for Phoenix Financial Services and O2 Advisors, PPE. He has also refereed youth basketball games at the Lewisburg YMCA and volunteered at the Lewisburg Children's Museum.

Holy Cross’s Oliver Named Semifinalist for William V. Campbell Trophy
Senior running back Peter Oliver of the Holy Cross football team has been selected as one of 176 semifinalists for the 2021 William V. Campbell Trophy, college football's premier scholar-athlete award. Oliver is one of 36 semifinalists at the NCAA football championship subdivision level. He owns a 3.95 cumulative grade-point average as a chemistry and Spanish double major and is a two-time Academic All-Patriot League selection. During the Spring 2021 season, Oliver was additionally named a CoSIDA Academic All-District and All-Patriot League second-team honoree. Over his career, Oliver has totaled 1,041 rushing yards and nine touchdowns for the Crusaders.

Lehigh’s Allen Named a Semifinalist for William V. Campbell Trophy
Lehigh senior running back RaShawn Allen has been named one of 176 finalists for the 2021 William V. Campbell Trophy, the NFF. The William V. Campbell Trophy recognizes an individual as the absolute best football scholar-athlete in the nation for his combined academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership. Allen carries a 3.75 cumulative GPA in Lehigh's rigorous electrical engineering program. He is a three-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and has earned Dean's List distinction with a GPA better than 3.60 in four of his first six semesters, including a 4.0 in the spring of 2020. A team captain in 2021, Allen led the Mountain Hawks in rushing during the spring 2021 campaign, with 128 yards in three games, highlighted by a 49-yard touchdown run at Lafayette. The Canton, Mich., native has 858 rushing yards and four touchdowns in 28 career games for the Mountain Hawks.
