The Notre Dame Football program brought in elite talent along the offensive line this recruiting cycle, and one could start as a true freshman.
This was an incredible recruiting cycle for the Notre Dame Football program, as they brought in four four-star offensive linemen and one three-star. Blake Fisher, Rocco Spindler, and Caleb Johnson were all four-star recruits coming out of high school, and they could not be arriving at a better time.
This upcoming season, the Irish will be replacing a ton of talent up front along the offensive line, including four guys who could end up being 2021 draft picks. To continue to be ‘Offensive Line U,’ the Irish need to keep the chain moving when it comes to the offensive line, and these three players will certainly help then do that.
As Pete Sampson from The Athletic tweeted out this past week, Fisher actually got first-team reps, which is incredible considering it was his third college practice.
The expectation was that Fisher, Spindler, and Johnson will be the cornerstone for the Irish along the defensive line for years to come, and for Fisher, his future may be sooner than expected.
Notre Dame Football revamping offensive line
As we stated earlier, the Notre Dame Football program is losing a ton of talent along the offensive line, including All-Americans, potential first-round draft picks, and guys with a ton of experience. They return Jarrett Patterson, their center from a year ago, though he may end up being moved to left tackle.
Fisher, one of the best offensive tackles in the country coming into South Bend, could be on the right side as a true freshman, a testament to just how good he is. In fact, I would not be surprised if Spindler got in the mix with the first-team before the Blue-Gold game, and both players started in Year 1.
After going to two of the last three College Football Playoffs, and huge recruits coming in for the 2022 recruiting cycle, the Notre Dame Football program is positioning itself to be special for the long haul. Guys like Johnson, Fisher, and Spindler can end up being a group like the men who are leaving this year for the NFL, and that would be perfect as Brian Kelly looks to get this program over the hump in the biggest of games.
