Tommy Stevens, who played three seasons for Penn State Football, signed with the. NY Giants Wednesday afternoon, as a tight end
Former Penn State Football quarterback, turned NFL tight end, Tommy Stevens signed with the NY Giants, the team announced Wednesday afternoon.
Stevens, 24, was part of the Nittany Lions‘ “Lion” package during the 2018 campaign where he was used as a wildcat option behind center.
Chosen by the New Orleans Saints in the seventh-round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Stevens has appeared in one game for the Carolina Panthers, rushing four times for 24 yards. Stevens did not appear in a single game for the Saints prior to signing with the Panthers.
The NY Giants will likely look for Stevens to try to win a job and provide quality depth at the tight end position, behind Evan Engram, Kyle Rudolph, Kaden Smith, and Levine Toilolo this season. Tight end is a bit of a need for the NY Giants, at least in terms of creating competition at the position during training camp, following Kelvin Benjamin’s abrupt retirement during practice last week.
Stevens appeared in 20 games for Penn State Football, before transferring to Mississippi State, where he played under former Nittany Lions offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead for one season. During his collegiate career, Stevens completed 59.9 percent of his passes for 1,459 yards with 15 touchdowns to just six interceptions.
