Fifteen players from Alabama high schools and colleges are serving as team captains in the NFL this season.
Of the 32 NFL teams, 27 chose captains to serve for the entire season. The other five teams choose captains weekly.
In most cases, the captains are selected by a vote of the team’s players.
The players with Alabama football roots serving as team captains this season include:
· Defensive tackle Jonathan Allen (Alabama) for the Washington Football Team
· Defensive end Josh Allen (Abbeville High School) for the Jacksonville Jaguars
· Middle linebacker Josh Bynes (Auburn) for the Cincinnati Bengals
· Safety Landon Collins (Alabama) for the Washington Football Team
· Defensive end Trey Flowers (Columbia High School in Huntsville) for the Detroit Lions
· Running back Derrick Henry (Alabama) for the Tennessee Titans
· Center Rodney Hudson (B.C. Rain High School in Mobile) for the Las Vegas Raiders
· Wide receiver Julio Jones (Foley High School, Alabama) for the Atlanta Falcons
· Safety Bobby McCain (Oxford High School) for the Miami Dolphins
· Defensive tackle Steve McLendon (Carroll High School in Ozark, Troy) for the New York Jets
· Quarterback Cam Newton (Auburn) for the New England Patriots
· Quarterback Philip Rivers (Athens High School) for the Indianapolis Colts
· Outside linebacker Za’Darius Smith (Greenville High School) for the Green Bay Packers
· Cornerback Neiko Thorpe (Auburn) for the Seattle Seahawks
· Defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson (Alabama) for the New York Giants
