December’s early signing period has come and gone. So, too, has Wednesday's signing day.
But recruiting season is far from over.
That’s thanks to college football’s transfer portal, which has changed the recruiting landscape with surges of Division I players looking to switch programs for myriad reasons.
It's how Heisman winner Joe Burrow ended up at LSU.
It's how Heisman candidate Justin Fields landed at Ohio State.
As spring rosters start to take shape, more names will enter the transfer portal over the coming months.
But already, there's a strong of group of college football players looking to reboot their careers elsewhere. Here's the best of what's out there:
Connor Heyward
Position: Running back
Former school: Michigan State
Heyward announced he was entering the transfer portal midway back on Sept. 30. At that point, he had rushed 24 times for 79 yards and caught seven passes for 74 yards through four games. In 2018, as a sophomore, he rushed 118 times for 529 yards and caught 32 passes for 249 yards. He is finishing his degree at Michigan State this semester and will be immediately eligible with two years remaining wherever he transfers. Pitt, where he nearly committed coming out of high school, is thought to be a formidable team in this recruitment.
Jarren Williams
Position: Quarterback
Former school: Miami
Maybe the biggest name in the transfer portal, Williams told Miami of his intent to transfer in late January, after former Houston quarterback D’Eriq King transferred to the Hurricanes. Williams threw for 2,187 yards and 19 touchdowns while completing 61.2% of his passes as a redshirt freshman this season. He was a four-star, top-100 recruit out of the Atlanta area.
Tarik Black
Position: Wide receiver
Former school: Michigan
A former four-star recruit who was part of the Wolverines’ loaded 2017 receiver class, Black already has a healthy list of interested schools after entering the transfer portal in December. According to 247Sports’ Brian Dohn, Texas, Virginia, Boston College and Arizona State are some of the schools thought to be involved. Black is an East Coast product, out of Cheshire Academy in Cheshire, Connecticut. He will graduate this spring and have two years of eligibility left. He caught 25 passes for 323 yards and a touchdown this fall.
Dee Anderson
Position: Wide receiver
Former school: LSU
The 6-foot-5 Anderson caught 20 passes for 274 yards as a junior before getting suspended his entire senior year for not meeting conditioning requirements, head coach Ed Orgeron told reporters. Anderson, a former four-star recruit out of DeSoto, Texas, graduated from LSU in December and will be immediately eligible at his new school. He visited Oklahoma State last weekend, and the Cowboys will no doubt try to close this recruitment soon.
Jauan Williams
Position: Offensive line
Former school: Florida State
A former four-star recruit out of Washington, D.C., Williams started 16 games at right tackle and left tackle over his Seminoles career before being benched for freshman Darius Washington as a redshirt senior this season. He will be immediately eligible wherever he transfers. If he wants to go closer to home, Mike Locksley's Maryland program is certainly a potential destination to watch.
Xavier Kelly
Position: Defensive tackle
Former school: Clemson
Originally a four-star, top-100 recruit out of Wichita, Kansas, Kelly’s career at Clemson never really took off, as he logged 26 tackles and 2.5 snaps over 256 snaps in three years as a Tiger. Still, he’s one of the more talented players in the transfer portal, and schools are interested. It seems Arkansas is a potential destination, as Kelly visited the Razorbacks last weekend. After that visit, he told Rivals.com that a decision may be coming soon.
Nigel Knott
Position: Cornerback
Former school: Alabama
Knott was a four-star, top-75 recruit out of Mississippi in the 2016 class, but he didn’t see the field much at Alabama. He recorded his first and only tackle against Arkansas in 2018, and he was a medical redshirt last season. He will be immediately eligible wherever he transfers, and schools have reached out since he entered the transfer portal in late January. According to USA TODAY Sports Network's Rainer Sabin, Michigan State is among the schools that have already contacted Knott.
Jordan Parker
Position: Cornerback
Former school: Oklahoma
A four-star recruit in the 2016 class, Parker recorded 36 tackles as a true freshman with the Sooners. He then missed most of the 2017 season with a knee injury, and he logged just 14 tackles the past two seasons. Parker is from Pittsburg, California, and he originally picked the Sooners over a host of West Coast programs, including UCLA, USC and Arizona State.
