Spring ball resumed for the Texas football program once again this week following a surge of positive COVID-19 tests since March 24 for the team. Contract drills in spring camp had to be placed on pause for roughly one week, even though the team still conducted walkthroughs for the players and coaches that cleared COVID-19 testing and contact tracing protocols.
Newly hired head coach Steve Sarkisian is trying to work in a lot of stuff in a brief amount of time in spring drills the rest of the way now. He’s implementing new schemes on each side of the ball for the Longhorns with new defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski and the combination of him and new offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood.
Moreover, Texas also experienced a lot of roster attrition already at this point of the offseason. Numerous key losses to the NCAA Transfer Portal and to the NFL Draft among early entrants will mean a lot of new faces needing to step up on both sides of the ball.
Texas began spring camp officially back on March 23, and the spring football game is set for April 24, with kick-off time set for 1 p.m., at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. There are still a few weeks of spring practice remaining before the Orange-White Game arrives on April 24.
With the Longhorns ramping back up to high gear in spring drills, who’s already looking like they will be able to contribute early for Sark and his staff? Here’s a look at three new additions for the Longhorns that are already standing out at this point of spring camp.
