While the COVID-19 pandemic canceled the NCAA winter and spring sports championships, fans continue to hold out hope for football in the fall. In an unusual offseason with the coronavirus outbreak throughout the country abruptly ending spring camps for programs across the Football Bowl Subdivision and beyond, the 2020 season taking place provides optimism as the nation fights off the unprecedented health crisis.
College football coaches and players have adapted to the times on the fly, with universities going online and teams adopting virtual communication for digital meetings and such in the meantime. Ohio State head coach Ryan Day and the Buckeyes had three spring practices before camp was cut short, but coaches and players are preparing for the fall, business as usual.
"I think the accountability is at an all-time high in terms of making sure that these guys are doing what they need to do," Day said. "And the older guys know what they're supposed to do. The younger guys need a little bit more guidance. But like everyone says, character is really shown when nobody's looking and this is the ultimate test of that."
Although the nationwide coronavirus containment measures have put teams in tough places to prepare until the fall, early odds are already out for the winner of January 2021's College Football Playoff national championship game, via William Hill.
