It is assumed that Jack Coan will take over as quarterback of the Notre Dame football team, but could Drew Pyne push him for the job?
It’s worth pointing out that this is just spring ball, and due to COVID-19 related restrictions it’s difficult to see the Notre Dame football team practice, and there is a long way to go. However, there is a lot of talk surrounding Drew Pyne early this Spring.
There are even rumors that the backup, now an academic Sophomore, could even push Jack Coan for a starting job.
Brian Kelly has been praising Pyne for playing with a chip on his shoulder. At the same time, he’s also made it clear that the starting quarterback position is earned and not given, and Pyne is trying to earn it. It sounds like Pyne and Coan are getting equal reps with the first and second teams, putting up more than a small challenge to Coan.
This shouldn’t be as surprising as it is to some people, though. Coming out of high school, Drew Pyne was a highly touted, 4-star recruit when he landed with this Notre Dame football program. He was receiving comparison to Chase Daniels, who put up massive numbers at Missouri.
He even was being recruited by Alabama as early as middle school, so in other words, Pyne is more than capable of becoming a Power-5 starter. In fact, that’s what is expected of him as a prospect.
