GEICO Football Players of the Week Announced (4.12.21) - Patriot League - Patriot League Official Athletic Site

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Fordham captured three of the four Patriot League GEICO weekly football awards when the League office announced honors. Lafayette received one weekly honor.  
 
Fordham junior wide receiver Fotis Kokosioulis hauled in nine catches for 149 receiving yards and a touchdown to collect Patriot League Football GEICO Offensive Player of the Week. Junior placekicker/punter Nick Leinenweber claimed his second-consecutive special teams player of the week after connecting on a career-long 41-yard field goal and going 4-for-4 on extra-point attempts. Freshman linebacker Mike Courtney earned rookie of the week honors after returning an interception 49 yards for a touchdown and totaling 3.5 tackles for loss (TFL).
 
Lafayette sophomore defensive lineman Damon Washington was named the Patriot League Football GEICO Defensive Player of the Week for posting eight tackles, 4.5 TFLs, 4.0 sacks and two forced fumbles to lead Lafayette to a 20-13 victory over Lehigh.
 
Bucknell freshman running back/kick returner Coleman Bennett, Fordham senior linebacker Glenn Cunningham, Lafayette senior placekicker/punter Jeffrey Kordenbrock and junior tight end Steven Stilianos all received honorable mentions for their performances on Saturday.
 
The Patriot League football players of the week are selected in a vote by League media members and each school’s sports information directors, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.

PATRIOT LEAGUE FOOTBALL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Fotis Kokosioulis, Fordham, Jr., Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South (NIU)
*Kokosioulis posted game-highs with nine catches and 149 receiving yards and a 50-yard touchdown catch in Fordham’s 31-17 victory over Bucknell
*His 149 receiving yards were a career-high, while his nine receptions matched his career-high.
*His 50-yard touchdown reception broke a 17-17 tie late in the third quarter.  
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE FOOTBALL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Damon Washington, Lafayette, So., DL, Iselin, N.J./John F. Kennedy
*Washington finished with eight tackles, 4.5 TFLs, 4.0 sacks and two forced fumbles to lead Lafayette to a 20-13 victory over Lehigh.
*Two of his sacks came during the Mountain Hawks’ final drive to help preserve the Leopards’ victory, in a game where their defense limited Lehigh to 48 rushing yards on 34 attempts.
*His four sacks were one shy of a program record set in 1982, while he became the first Leopard since 1999 to register four sacks in one game.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE FOOTBALL SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Nick Leinenweber, Fordham, Jr., PK/P, Neptune Beach, Fla./Episcopal School
*Leinenweber connected on a career-long 41-yard field goal and went 4-for-4 on extra point attempts in Fordham’s 31-17 victory over Bucknell.
*The junior specialist also punted five times for 165 yards for an average of 33.0 yards per punt.
*He also kicked off six times for an average of 56.7 yards per kick.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE FOOTBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Mike Courtney, Fordham, Fr., LB, Mahopac, N.Y./Don Bosco Prep
*Courtney gave Fordham the lead late in the third quarter when he returned an interception 49 yards for a touchdown in the Rams’ 31-17 victory over Bucknell.
*The freshman linebacker finished with six tackles, five solo tackles, including 3.5 TFLs.
*Courtney was part of a Fordham defense that held Bucknell to 199 yards of total offense.
 
HONORABLE MENTIONS
Coleman Bennett, Bucknell, Fr., RB/KR, Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons
*Bennett scored his first collegiate touchdown and totaled a career-best 186 all-purpose yards for Bucknell. His 76-yard opening kickoff return helped set up a Bison field goal.
 
Glenn Cunningham, Fordham, Sr., LB, Glastonbury, Conn./Xavier
*Cunningham finished with eight tackles, 2.0 TFLs, 1.0 sack and two interceptions, while helping the Rams defense hold Bucknell to 199 yards of total offense in a 31-17 victory.  
 
Jeffrey Kordenbrock, Lafayette, Sr., PK/P, Glenelg, Md./Calvert Hall
* Kordenbrock connected on a pair of field-goal attempts and made both of his extra points in Lafayette’s 20-13 victory over Lehigh. He also handled punting duties, averaging 36.3 yards per punt on eight attempts with a long of 50.
 
Steven Stilianos, Lafayette, Jr., TE, Hayes, Va./Christchurch School
*Stilianos finished with two catches for 64 yards and recorded his second two-touchdown performance of the season. He had scoring catches of 34 yards and the game-winning touchdown reception of 30 yards. He was named MVP of the Lafayette-Lehigh game.
