2020-21 Spring Football All-League and Major Awards Announced (4.13.21) - Patriot League - Patriot League Official Athletic Site

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Fordham junior quarterback Tim DeMorat and junior linebacker Ryan Greenhagen were selected Patriot League Offensive and Defensive Player of the year, respectively, when the Patriot League announced All-League honors and major awards for the 2021 spring season, on Tuesday.
 
Holy Cross freshman quarterback Matthew Sluka was named Patriot League Rookie of the Year for the North Division champion Crusaders. Bucknell Head Coach Dave Cecchini claimed Patriot League Dick Biddle Coach of the Year honors for the South Division champion Bison.
 
Lafayette placed a League-high 15 student-athletes on the two All-Patriot League teams, including five first-team members. The Crusaders garnered 14 All-League selections with six on the first-team, followed by Fordham with 13 (9 first-team) and Bucknell with 11 (7 first-team). Lehigh and Colgate finished with six and three All-League honorees, respectively.
 
Patriot League football major awards and All-League teams were voted on by League football head coaches who competed during the spring 2021 season. Coaches could not vote for their student-athletes or themselves.
 
2020-21 Patriot League Spring Football Offensive Player of the Year
Tim DeMorat, Fordham, Jr., QB, Merritt Island, Fla./Viera
2020-21 Stats: 93-for-129 passing for 1,049 yards, 5 TDs, 3 INTs, 148.5 pass efficiency
*DeMorat, earned First-Team All-Patriot League honors for the second time after leading the League and ranking seventh in the FCS with 349.7 passing yards per game. He threw a League-high five touchdown passes and rushed for two more scores.
*The junior signal-caller helped the Rams’ offense pace the Patriot League and place among the FCS’s top-20 in scoring offense (31.7 pts/gm) and total offense (433.3 yds/gm).
*The Merritt Island, Fla. native is 10th among active FCS quarterbacks in passing yards (5,356) and 23rd in passing efficiency (127.44).
 
2020-21 Patriot League Spring Football Defensive Player of the Year
Ryan Greenhagen, Fordham, Jr., LB, Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII
2020-21 Stats: 2 games, 22 tackles, 11.0 tackles per game, 1 pass breakup
*Greenhagen, a three-time All-Patriot League selection, led the League with 11.0 tackles per game after posting a League-high 123 tackles in 2019.
*The junior linebacker posted a League single-game high of 16 tackles in the Rams’ 40-8 victory over Colgate.
*He is second among active FCS players with 1.37 tackles for loss per game through 26 career games.
 
2020-21 Patriot League Spring Football Rookie of the Year
Matthew Sluka, Holy Cross, Fr., QB, Locust Valley, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial
2020-21 Stats: 13 carries for 151 yards and two touchdowns, 2-for-3 passing for 33 yards and one touchdown.
*Sluka earned Patriot League Rookie of the Week on March 29 after rushing for a pair of touchdowns and throwing for a third score in a comeback win over Fordham.
*His 151 rushing yards against the Rams was the most by a Holy Cross rookie since 1976.
*The Locust Valley, N.Y. native finished second in the League in rushing yards (151) while posting a League-high 11.6 yards per carry.
 
2020-21 Patriot League Spring Football Dick Biddle Coach of the Year
Dave Cecchini, Bucknell
*The second-year head coach led the Bison to the South Division title and a berth in the 2020-21 Patriot League Football Championship Game.
*The Bison found a variety of ways to win, totaling 415 yards of total offense in a 38-13 victory over Lafayette and holding Lehigh to 190 yards of total offense in a 6-0 shutout win over Lehigh.
*Bucknell’s defense held opponents to 14.3 points while maintaining a +3 turnover margin, forcing seven turnovers in three games.
 
2020-21 All-Patriot League Football By the Numbers
Twenty-four of the All-Patriot League football selections are multi-year honorees. Bucknell senior linebacker Simeon Page and Fordham senior linebacker Glenn Cunningham expanded the four-time All-Patriot League club to 20 members. Page and Cunningham each earned a spot on the first-team for the third time this season.
 
Five student-athletes joined the list of 94 Patriot League football players to earn All-League honors three times. Three of the first-team offensive lineman, including Colgate senior Jack Badovinac, Fordham senior Nick Zakelj and Holy Cross senior Brian Foley received All-League honors for the third time. Greenhagen and Lafayette junior defensive lineman Malik Hamm, the 2019 Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year, each received their third All-League accolade. All were first-team selections this season.
 
DeMorat, Bucknell junior wide receiver Brandon Sanders, Holy Cross senior defensive lineman Benton Whitley made the first team for the second-consecutive season. Bucknell senior offensive lineman PJ Barr and sophomore defensive back Gavin Pringle, Colgate sophomore defensive back/return specialist Will Gruber, Fordham junior offensive lineman Phil Saleh and senior running back Trey Sneed, Holy Cross sophomore linebacker Jacob Dobbs, Lafayette senior placekicker/punter Jeffrey Kordenbrock and senior running back Selwyn Simpson all earned first-team honors after being selected to the second team in 2019.
 
Holy Cross sophomore wide receiver Ayir Asante, Lafayette senior offensive linemen Gavin Barclay and John Burk and senior linebacker Major Jordan and Lehigh senior linebacker Pete Haffner were selected to the second team for the second-straight season.
 
Seniors accounted for 27 of the 62 spots on the two All-League squads, while 19 juniors received postseason honors. Fifteen sophomores filled the roster with Lehigh freshman defensive back LaTreil Wimberly as the lone first-year player to be voted onto the teams by the League coaches.
