After a bye week to figure out what's been ailing a lifeless offense, Clemson returns to the field on a busy Friday night in college football to battle Syracuse on the road. The last time these two squared off at the Carrier Dome on a Friday night was back in 2017, when the Orange shocked the sport by upsetting the then-No. 2 Tigers 27-24. After a crushing 40-37 home loss to unbeaten Wake Forest last week, Syracuse will be looking to break through as it tries to improve to 4-3 on the season. A loss for Clemson would give the Tigers their first three-loss season since 2014.
Around the time that one ends, No. 9 Oregon will be kicking off against California in a revenge spot for the Ducks. Cal upset Oregon 21-17 last season in what ended up being the only victory of the Bears' four-game season. Things haven't gone much better for Cal this season, but another win over Oregon would be a massive boost for fifth-year coach Justin Wilcox. But as Oregon comes off a bye week following a 31-24 overtime loss at Stanford on Oct. 2, the Ducks should be motivated to prove they still belong in the College Football Playoff conversation.
Sandwiched within Clemson and Oregon taking the field on Friday night, No. 24 San Diego State clashes with San Jose State and Marshall squares off with North Texas. We're in store for a fun evening of college football action.
