Patriot League GEICO Football Players of the Week Announced (10.25.21) - Patriot League Official Athletic Site

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Fordham collected two of the four Patriot League GEICO weekly football awards when the League office announced honors on Monday. Bucknell and Colgate claimed one weekly award apiece.
 
Fordham senior quarterback Tim DeMorat was named the Patriot League Football GEICO Offensive Player of the Week for the fifth time this season and the third consecutive week after throwing for 401 yards and accounting for five touchdowns in the Rams’ comeback win over Lehigh. Freshman linebacker James Conway received GEICO Defensive Player of the Week after recording a career-high 21 tackles and forcing two fumbles in the Rams’ win. 
 
Colgate senior defensive back/return specialist Will Gruber claimed his second-consecutive Patriot League GEICO Special Teams Player of the Week. He returned a kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown to tie the League single-season and career record for kickoff returns for touchdowns with two. 
 
Bucknell freshman quarterback Ethan Grady received Patriot League Football GEICO Rookie of the Week. He threw for 162 yards, and three touchdown passes in his first collegiate start against Georgetown. 
 
Bucknell senior wide receiver Dominic Lyles, Georgetown senior wide receiver Cameron Crayton, senior linebacker Justin Fonteneaux and sophomore punter/placekicker Conor Hunt, Holy Cross senior linebacker Liam Doran, senior placekicker Derek Ng and senior running back Peter Oliver, and Lehigh junior running back Zaythan Hill all received honorable mentions for their performances on Saturday.
 
The Patriot League football players of the week are selected in a vote by League media members and each school’s sports information directors, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.

PATRIOT LEAGUE FOOTBALL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tim DeMorat, Fordham, Sr., QB, Merritt Island, Fla./Viera
*DeMorat completed 24-of-40 passes for 401 yards and three touchdowns and rushed three times for 16 yards and two more scores to lead Fordham to a 35-28 comeback win over Lehigh. 
*The Walter Payton Award Watch List nominee accounted for all five of Fordham’s touchdowns, including three straight in the fourth quarter to overcome a 14-point deficit.
*DeMorat leads the Patriot League and is fourth in the FCS in touchdown passes (24) and points responsible for (162). He is also 10th in the FCS in passing yards per game (296.0). 
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE FOOTBALL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
James Conway, Fordham, Fr., LB, Omaha, Neb./Millard West
*Conway registered a career-high 22 tackles and 1.5 TFLs in Fordham’s 35-28 comeback victory over Lehigh.
*He also forced two fumbles in the fourth quarter, including one recovered by the Rams, to help set up the game-tying touchdown.
*Conway leads the Patriot League and is second in the FCS with 12.1 tackles per game.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE FOOTBALL SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
William Gruber, Colgate, Sr., DB/RS, Hermitage, Pa./Hickory
*Gruber returned a kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown
*It was his second kickoff return for a score in as many weeks, tying the Patriot League single-season and career record.
*Gruber is the third student-athlete in League history to return two kickoffs for touchdowns in a single season, joining Bucknell’s Dante Ross (2004) and Lafayette’s Matt Smalley (2013).
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE FOOTBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Ethan Grady, Bucknell, Fr., QB, Manhattan Beach, Calif./St. Monica Catholic
*Grady completed 12-of-20 passes for 162 yards and three touchdowns in his first collegiate start and second game.
*The freshman quarterback threw touchdown passes of 31, 24 and 34 yards to senior wide receiver Dominic Lyles.
*His 24-yard touchdown pass came on a 4th-down and six play.
 
HONORABLE MENTIONS
Dominic Lyles, Bucknell, Sr., WR, Washington, D.C./DeMatha
*Lyles caught five passes for career-highs of 110 receiving yards and three touchdowns in Bucknell’s loss to Georgetown. He became the sixth Bison to record three touchdown receptions in a single game. 
 
Cameron Crayton, Georgetown, Sr., WR, Rowlett, Texas/Rockwall
*Crayton caught six passes for 136 yards, including a 70-yard touchdown reception on the first offensive play of the game to lead the Hoyas to a 29-21 victory over Bucknell. 
 
Justin Fonteneaux, Georgetown, Sr., LB, Houston, Texas/Lamar
*Fonteneaux led the Hoyas with 10 tackles in their 29-21 victory over Bucknell.   
 
Conor Hunt, Georgetown, So., P/PK, Kamuela, Hawaii/Hawaii Preparatory Academy
*Hunt connected on all three of his field-goal attempts and both of his PAT attempts while averaging 37.8 yards per punt on five attempts. Four of his punts were down inside the opponent’s 20-yard line.
 
Liam Doran, Holy Cross, Sr., LB, Framingham, Mass./St. John’s
*Doran finished with a season- and team-high 10 tackles to lead the Crusaders’ defense in a 42-10 victory over Colgate. He added 1.0 TFL and a pass breakup for a Crusaders defense that did not allow an offensive touchdown.
 
Derek Ng, Holy Cross, Sr., PK, Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman
*Ng completed a nine-yard touchdown pass on a fake field goal in addition to connecting on all six of his PAT attempts in the Crusaders’ 42-10 win over Colgate.
 
Peter Oliver, Holy Cross, Sr., RB, Auburn, Mass./St. John’s
*Oliver rushed for a career-best 153 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries to lead Holy Cross to a 42-10 win over Colgate at Polar Park. His score on the game’s opening drive marked the first touchdown in the history of Polar Park.
 
Zaythan Hill, Lehigh, Jr., RB, Southern Pines, N.C./Pinecrest
*Hill established career highs in rush attempts (27), rushing yards (159) and touchdowns (3) in Lehigh’s loss to Fordham. The junior running back scored the Mountain Hawks’ first touchdown of the season on a 29-yard run to cap Lehigh’s first drive of the game.
