As is normally the case in the final week of the high school football regular season, there is a heavy slate of Thursday games across the state.

Key matchups tonight include St. Paul’s vs. undefeated Vigor, Austin at Mountain Brook, Russellville at Madison Academy and Oxford at Central-Phenix City.

9:05 PM, St. Paul’s with a stand: Saints turn Vigor away on fourth down with less than four minutes left. They lead the unbeaten Wolves 24-20.

Overtime: Clarke County, Thomasville headed to OT in the Backyard Brawl, tied 7-7.

Rolling: Central-Phenix City leading Oxford 53-0 with nine minutes left.

9:04 PM, Patriot rally? Homewood has it at Pelham 43, down 10-7 with 38 seconds left in the game. They trailed 10-0 at one point.

9 PM, Lead change: After Vigor muffs a punt attempt, St. Paul’s takes over at the Wolves’ 5. On fourth down, Chris Bracy scores the touchdown to give the Saints the lead again. It’s 24-20 with 5:29 left. Vigor is 9-0 but will need a touchdown drive to complete an unbeaten regular season.

8:53 PM, Saints close in: John Wallace Holladay scores on a 2-yard run. St. Paul’s cuts the Vigor lead to 20-17 in the 4th quarter.

Calera 31, Chelsea 7: Preston Stokes with a 26-yard TD pass to Alabama WR commit Kobe Prentice. Third TD hookup of the night for those two.

Clay-Chalkville continued to pound Oak Mountain. It’s 48-0 with 10:07 left.

Mountain Brook’s Cole Gamble scores from 1-yard out. Spartans lead Austin 34-0 with 1:24 left.
