YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University football team continued its push towards the start of the 2021 regular season slate today, Aug. 11, when it completed its sixth preseason practice of the year inside Rynearson Stadium.
A benchmark practice session for the Eagles and many other teams across the country, today's outing marked the official end of the NCAA-mandated five-day acclamation period which sees players begin practice in helmets only, before transitioning to helmets and shoulder pads, and finally, following day five of training, full pads.
As is traditionally the case, the introduction of full pads brought a clear excitement to the players and staff alike. Despite the newfound ability to tackle and make contact at a more prevalent level than the days prior, eighth year Head Coach Chris Creighton made it clear to his players that safety was the top priority for his team, the 130th to don the Green and White.
"We only went live for eight plays today," said Creighton in his post-practice interview with Associate Athletic Director Greg Steiner. "We did a great job of going from a thud period to a live period, and then back to a thud period. You know, that demonstrates some of the maturity that we believe we have."
On the field, the day followed a very similar format to the preseasons first five opportunities. Special teams was emphasized at the beginning of the session before individual group periods dominated the middle portion of the workout. After that, the offense and defense battled in a set of scripted plays.
After an evening walk-through session tonight, a portion of camp in-place for just the fifth year after the elimination of two-a-days following the 2016 season, the team will be back to work tomorrow morning for another practice inside "The Factory."

With the season fast approaching, the EMU Ticket Office has announced the sale of 2021 ticket packages and single-game ticket options. EMU's schedule features six home games. Visit the official ticketing page at EMUEagles.com for more information.
The Sept. 3 contest has been designated as CommUniversitE Night. An event designed to spotlight the unique relationship between the local community and the University. This is a special event where we are inviting the entire community to come out and support the football team. Pregame festivities will feature food, music, kid-friendly activities, and more. Throughout the game, Eastern Athletics will be recognizing frontline workers and celebrating our return to Rynearson Stadium.
