Tomiwa Durojaiye Discusses Interest in Iowa Football | Recruiting | hawkeyenation.com - Hawkeye Nation

If you're moving halfway across the country, it helps having a connection. Tomiwa Durojaiye believes he has that in Iowa.

The Middletown (DE) High defensive end picked up a Hawkeye scholarship offer last month. He's been bonding with position coach Kelvin Bell since then.

"I’ve been talking with coach Bell the most from Iowa. We have a great relationship," Durojaiye told HN.

Iowa is competing with a lot of programs for his services. He reports scholarship offers from Arkansas, Duke, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Michigan, Northwestern, South Carolina, West Virginia and others.

"I don’t have any schools over any others yet. I plan on dropping a top (schools) list later this month. I have it set to drop (May) 28th, but there’s a possibility I’ll drop it sooner. But I’ll definitely have one this month and those will be the schools I plan on checking out once the dead period is over," he said.

The Hawkeyes are positioned to make the cut.

"I’m looking forward to finding out about the campus and the community there. It seems like a very nice place. I would like to come for a visit. I don’t know if it’ll be unofficial or official yet. It’ll most likely be in June when I come. I’m hoping to make my decision this summer, maybe in July or August," Durojaiye said.

Two Iowa defensive linemen were drafted into the NFL this past weekend. Chauncey Golston and Daviyon Nixon gave the program six selections at the position since 2015, joining Carl Davis, Jaleel Johnson, Anthony Nelson and AJ Epenesa.

"I believe my skill set fits Iowa if I chose to go there because I’m versatile. I’m able to do a lot of things others guys can’t, I want to win and I’m passionate. I feel the program is the same way," the 6-foot-5, 250-pound Durojaiye said.

Bell has expressed a similar belief.

"He likes my aggression, my size and sees me being a versatile player at the next level. He’s recruiting me to play defensive end. I think he’s a great coach and really a genuine person," Durojaiye said.

During eight games as a junior, Durojaiye totaled 45 tackles (19.5 for loss) and 8.5 sacks, and he blocked two kicks. He was selected first-team all-state.

Durojaiye is on track to graduate high school by the end of the year. He would like to enroll in college during January.

That puts a degree of urgency on his decision. When the 15-month long recruiting dead period ends June 1, he'll look to expand his knowledge of his suitors.

"I don’t know too much about Iowa other than it being in the Midwest. It definitely seems like a nice university from what I have heard," he said.

Rivals and 247Sports rank Durojaiye as a three-star prospect. The latter sees him as the No. 73 strong-side defensive end nationally in the '22 Class and the fourth-best player overall in his state.
