The Texas A&M Football team has had a lot of success since Jimbo Fisher’s arrival in College Station. With that success, there has also been a comforting level of stability since 2017.
Even in an uncharacteristically unstable season for college football, many teams have suffered from a COVID season, new eligibility rules, and opt-outs. But the Aggies have held strong. That said, they aren’t immune to transfers and former Texas A&M Football wide receiver Camron Buckley showed that.
Buckley came to College Station as a 3-star wide receiver out of Cedar Hill, Texas. He arrived as a freshman in 2017 with low expectations but proved that stars don’t matter at the high school level.
The wide receiver quickly became an impact player for the Aggies, collecting 17 catches for nearly 300 yards and a trio of touchdowns as a freshman. It looked like he was in line to follow Kellen Mond as an impact player for the team, but that wouldn’t end up happening.
Buckley would have another strong season as a sophomore, starting in three games and accumulating 474 yards and a touchdown grab. Unfortunately, his snaps would slowly dissipate after this season, keeping him out of the game for most of his junior season.
He’d get injured before the 2020 season, resulting in him missing the entire year. It can be assumed that he was too far down the depth chart on a team with a crowded receiver room, leading to his decision to enter his name into the transfer portal.
Former Texas A&M Football standout Camron Buckley has transferred to Indiana
The news of Camron Buckley entering the transfer portal is not new — the wideout entered his name into the portal almost a month ago. The question for the past few weeks hasn’t been a matter of whether or not he’ll return, it’s been a question of where he’ll land.
On Monday, we got an answer.
Buckley committed to the Indiana Hoosiers as a graduate transfer. The Hoosiers have been working hard in the portal, as Buckley will be their eighth player brought in this season. He should be able to make an impact on an Indiana team that needs production from the wide receiver spot.
Aggie fans will be happy to see him succeed elsewhere, as he was a fan favorite as a young player.
