SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Riding the nation's seventh-longest home win streak, the Augustana football team will open the 2021 season at home in the fall schedule announced by head coach Jerry Olszewski Tuesday.
The Vikings open the 2021 season on Sept. 4 hosting Minot State. It will be the first action for Augustana since competing in the 2019 NCAA Division II Playoffs.
Following the season's first road trip on Sept. 11 at UMary, the Vikings welcome MSU Moorhead to Kirkeby-Over Stadium on Sept. 18.
Augustana then embarks on a two-game road trip, first to Bemidji State on Sept. 25 then a trip across town to face Sioux Falls in the 'Key to the City' game on Oct. 2. Augustana is in current possession of the key after toppling USF 20-13 in the 2019 meeting.
Viking Days will commence on Oct. 9 as Augustana welcomes Upper Iowa in the annual homecoming contest. The last time the two squads met AU put on an offensive and defensive clinic in a 52-0 Viking victory in 2019.
After not having to leave the city limits of Sioux Falls for two-straight weekends, Augustana travels to Wayne State on Oct. 16, then takes a trip to defending NSIC Champion Minnesota State on Oct. 23 in what is sure to be a key clash for the NSIC title in 2021.
Augustana closes the regular season with two out of the final three games inside Kirkeby-Over Stadium. The Vikings host Winona State on Oct. 30 and close the regular season at home against Southwest Minnesota State on Nov. 13, with the two contests sandwiched around a trip to Minnesota Duluth on Nov. 6.
"We're optimistic, based on the current progress of the COVID-19 vaccine and where we hope our community will be related to the spread of the virus, that attendance policies will return to much more normal capacities in the fall season," Augustana Director of Athletics Josh Morton said. "As always, the safety of our student-athletes, coaches and fans will drive our decisions regarding ticket availability and any other policies that help ensure the safety of our community."
All home contests for Augustana kickoff at 1 p.m. inside Kirkeby-Over Stadium, a home venue that has seen the Vikings run a pair of undefeated seasons including the 6-0 mark in the 2019 season. Information regarding season ticket renewals and A-Club membership for the 2021-22 season will be sent next month.
