The Oklahoma Sooners are already a week into spring practice in Norman, but Athlon Sports put together their top storylines for the team. It certainly begins with the quarterback, Spencer Rattler.

What Athlon Sports Says…

Every player can find an area or two to work on every offseason, but it’s hard to find many flaws in Rattler’s game. However, after last year’s abbreviated workouts due to COVID-19, this spring will be his first to work with coach Lincoln Riley for a full offseason as the No. 1 quarterback. As a redshirt freshman in 2020, Rattler threw for 3,031 yards and 28 touchdowns to just seven picks and connected on 67.5 percent of his throws. Now that Rattler has a full offseason to get settled, that’s even more reason to believe Oklahoma can win the national title in 2021.

What Sooners Wire Says…

The first year of the Spencer Rattler era as the starting quarterback started out rocky but we saw growth as the year progressed. After a stellar outing against Missouri State, the three-game stretch was a bit rough with losses to Kansas State, Iowa State, and his benching during the Red River Shootout. Upon his return in that game, it was smooth sailing for the Sooners on offense. The No. 1 quarterback in the 2019 recruiting class produced 15 touchdowns and just two interceptions in the seven games that followed their annual rivalry with the Texas Longhorns.
